A young man was arrested yesterday in Bangkok for his involvement in a mule account scam totaling losses of over 2.3 million baht. The Central Investigation Bureau apprehended Arthit, 20, based on a warrant from the Nong Khai Provincial Court. He was detained on Kanchanaphisek Road while heading towards Bang Na.

The case began on January 17, when a victim reported receiving a deceptive call claiming to be from a major mobile provider, followed by a fraudulent police call from Hat Yai Police Station, accusing the victim of criminal links. Under the pretense of verifying their account, the victim was persuaded to transfer money to an account under Arthit's name, after which contact ceased, and the scam was discovered.

Investigations revealed Arthit's account was involved in numerous fraud cases, serving as a receiving end for significant scam-related funds. Authorities linked the account to multiple victims, leading to estimated damages of around 2.3 million baht, prompting his arrest and subsequent confession. Arthit alleged involvement in creating bank accounts at the behest of an unidentified man and claimed he was transported to Cambodia for further activities.

Arthit stated he did not receive account access details and was paid minimally before being transported back to Thailand. Currently, he is detained at Tha Bo Police Station in Nong Khai province, awaiting further legal proceedings, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • Arthit's bank account was connected to multiple scam cases with significant financial damages.

  • He claims limited knowledge and minimal compensation for his role in the activities.

  • Legal proceedings are ongoing in Nong Khai province following his arrest.
