A search and rescue operation is in progress for a missing motorized boat, M/Bca Amejara, off Davao's coast. The vessel, carrying 13 people, faced tough conditions while traveling from Davao City to Governor Generoso town. Of those onboard, only one crewmember has been located and rescued so far.

The Amejara left Barangay Sta. Ana at 8 p.m. Saturday, aiming to reach its destination by Monday. Strong winds and waves obstructed its journey, leading the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to issue a notice to mariners. Ships and fishermen in the Davao Gulf, especially near Don Marcelino, Malita, and Sta. Maria, are urged to help locate the missing individuals.

In a similar incident, the M/B Sitti Nur, with 66 people aboard, sank near Simunul, Tawi-Tawi on Monday. Strong weather caused the wooden-hulled boat to capsize, prompting a PCG-led rescue operation. The response team found passengers clinging to debris, and survivors were subsequently taken to Bongao for medical aid.

As the search continues, experts warn about the challenges of operating in such conditions. The PCG remains vigilant, urging local communities to participate in monitoring efforts. Ongoing operations aim to locate the remaining 12 people from the Amejara and ensure all safety precautions are emphasized for similar voyages.

Looking ahead, the Philippine Coast Guard will intensify search efforts and review maritime safety regulations. Immediate actions will focus on enhancing coordination with local vessels and ensuring prompt response times to distress signals, reported Philstar.

Key Takeaways

  • The M/Bca Amejara is missing, with only one crewmember rescued so far.

  • M/B Sitti Nur's passengers were saved after capsizing in a separate incident.
