Police on Koh Pha Ngan, using a tracking feature on stolen Apple AirPods, uncovered a significant stash of illegal drugs on January 22. A 29-year-old Finnish tourist's report of stolen items led to this discovery, after the tracking function indicated the location of her stolen AirPods. This led officers to a residence in Ban Tai where the suspect was initially present.

The incident began when the tourist reported her belongings missing to the Koh Pha Ngan Tourist Police around 10:15 am. Equipped with the Find My app, she guided officers to the property's location. Upon arrival, the tourist activated her AirPods' sound alert, prompting the suspect to panic and flee, eluding police capture at that moment.

Inside the residence, police uncovered over 19 illicit items, including 523 grams of crystal meth, five methamphetamine tablets, and 77.7 grams of MDMA. Additional drug paraphernalia was discovered, leading to a broader investigation. The suspect, identified as Thanin, 55, faces charges for possession and intent to distribute Category 1 narcotics.

During the search, a phone call on Thanin's mobile led police to intercept a buyer on site. Channarong, 35, arrived to complete a drug transaction and was arrested. A subsequent drug test confirmed methamphetamine use, resulting in charges of drug use and driving under influence, with further legal action pending.

Tourist Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Saksira Pueak-am emphasized the operation's success in safeguarding tourists and tackling drug offenses. He assured continued efforts against drug crime in tourism areas, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways
