A woman’s motorcycle accident led to the discovery of nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition and religious artefacts in a roadside ditch in Chachoengsao, Thailand. The incident occurred in the Chukcho subdistrict when residents reported the unusual find on Ban Don Road. Local police were alerted and later discovered a fertiliser sack containing .38-calibre practice rounds, 12-gauge shotgun shells, Buddha statues, and a bronze likeness of King Rama IV.

Before the discovery, Urai Jitprasong, the woman involved in the accident, lost control of her motorcycle and required hospitalization. Her family members retrieved the motorcycle and searched the ditch for her phone and keys. During the search, a child from the household found the submerged sack and discovered its unexpected contents, prompting police involvement.

Police suspect the items were stolen and dumped by individuals who panicked upon noticing increased patrol activities. Residents had observed unusual canine behavior a few nights prior, possibly indicating movement in the area. Regular night patrols by local authorities may have contributed to the suspects abandoning the sack.

According to Police Capt Wichai Anansapying, the discovered items have been collected for investigation. Authorities plan to trace ownership and determine if related theft reports were filed. Capt Anansapying noted that the condition of the ammunition suggested it had been dumped only a few days before its discovery, reported Khaosod.

Key Takeaways

  • A motorcycle accident led to the discovery of dumped ammunition and artefacts.

  • Police suspect the cache was abandoned due to increased patrols.

  • Investigations are ongoing to trace ownership of the items.
