Thai authorities arrested Mui Yiu Keung, a Chinese national wanted in connection with a 1992 Hong Kong murder. The arrest took place on February 3 in Bangkok, following cooperation between Hong Kong authorities and Thailand's Central Investigation Bureau (CIB). Mui had been evading arrest for 32 years, having allegedly fled Hong Kong after the crime.

The murder case originated in 1992 when a Hong Kong man's body was found buried on a beach, later determined to be a homicide. Arrest warrants were issued for four Chinese nationals suspected of involvement. While other suspects were apprehended, Mui managed to escape capture and eventually absconded to Thailand.

Recent intelligence suggested Mui was hiding in Thailand, leading Thai investigators to his Bangkok congee restaurant. Surveillance confirmed Mui's identity, resulting in his arrest at his residence in the Nong Chok district. He failed to produce valid identification and admitted to being the fugitive.

After fleeing Hong Kong, Mui settled in Samut Prakan, opened a factory, married a Thai woman, and had three children before moving to Bangkok to run the restaurant. While arrested, Mui refused to discuss details of the Hong Kong murder. He faces charges for illegal entry and residency in Thailand before potential extradition to Hong Kong for legal proceedings.

This arrest is part of broader efforts by Thai authorities to resolve long-standing cold cases. Previous successful operations include the capture of a fugitive linked to a 2006 murder in Pattaya and a suspect related to a 15-year-old case in Phuket. Continued scrutiny and intelligence sharing have been instrumental in these breakthroughs, reported The Thaiger.

  • Mui Yiu Keung, wanted for a 1992 Hong Kong murder, was arrested in Bangkok.
