The Commissioner of Police of Hong Kong paid an official visit to Thailand on 4 February 2026 to thank Thai authorities for close cooperation in arresting major transnational criminals, reinforcing a shared stance that Thailand will not serve as a refuge for international offenders. The visit underscored strengthened operational ties between the Hong Kong Police Force and the Royal Thai Police, particularly in immigration enforcement. Thai officials said the cooperation had delivered tangible results in recent high-profile cases.

According to the Royal Thai Police, the meeting took place at the National Police Headquarters at 14.30 on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. Hong Kong Police Commissioner Zhou Yat-ming met Police General Kitrat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, with Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner-General, also present. Senior Immigration Bureau representatives included Pol Maj Gen Choengron Rimpadee, deputy commissioner and spokesperson, and Pol Maj Gen Kathathorn Khamthiang, commander of Immigration Division 2.

Hong Kong’s police chief formally expressed gratitude for Thailand’s assistance in apprehending a Chinese national wanted for a luxury brand store robbery in Hong Kong in mid-2025. The suspect fled to Thailand but was intercepted by Immigration Division 2 at Suvarnabhumi International Airport and returned to Hong Kong through deportation procedures. Zhou also praised Thai police for the recent arrest of a murder suspect who had been living in Thailand for an extended period, calling it evidence of effective intelligence sharing and international law enforcement cooperation.

During the visit, Zhou presented official letters of appreciation and commemorative medals to 28 Thai immigration officers. Those honoured included Pol Col Phongthorn Phongrattanant, Deputy Commander of Immigration Division 2, Pol Col Nattakit Meesuk, Pathum Thani Immigration chief, Pol Col Naowarat Chalermsi, head of inbound immigration at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and Pol Col Krit Chatthawi, head of immigration protocol at the same airport. Thai officials said the recognition aimed to boost morale among frontline officers tasked with blocking transnational crime.

Thaitabloid reported that Police General Kitrat reaffirmed Thailand’s principle of “not allowing the country to be a shelter or escape route for transnational criminals” and pledged continued close cooperation with international police agencies. Pol Maj Gen Choengron added that the successes followed policy directives from Pol Lt Gen Phanumart Boonyalak, Commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, to intensify screening and coordination with foreign counterparts. He said Thai airport immigration authorities blocked and deported 25,337 high-risk foreign nationals in 2025, including suspects coordinated with Hong Kong and Chinese police.
