Iran escalates home raids, seeks death penalty for protesters

Iran has sharply increased night-time home raids and mass arrests of protesters in recent weeks, with lawyers reporting a growing number of cases in which authorities are seeking the death penalty, according to multiple legal sources cited by Independent Persian.

Defence lawyers from several provinces, including Mazandaran, East Azerbaijan, Fars, and Razavi Khorasan, say security forces have carried out large-scale arrests linked to Iran’s ongoing nationwide protests. Many of the detainees are reportedly accused of serious offences such as moharebeh (waging war against God) and “corruption on earth” — charges that can carry capital punishment.

Legal professionals say arrests are frequently conducted without warrants, often during night-time raids on private homes. Phones, laptops, and other personal devices are confiscated, and detainees are reportedly taken away blindfolded and beaten. In many cases, lawyers claim there is no formal arrest record or case registration in Iran’s judicial system.

According to the lawyers, detainees are transferred to undisclosed detention facilities, where they face intense interrogation and pressure to provide forced confessions. Several sources say cases are being fast-tracked through specific investigative courts, with limited or no access for defence attorneys.

Lawyers also report that some detainees are under the age of 18 and that families are being threatened with arrest if they seek information or legal representation. In some instances, families have allegedly been warned that speaking to the media could accelerate executions.

There are also claims that some protesters have been secretly executed, with authorities later stating they died during street clashes — a claim lawyers dispute.

Human rights advocates warn that the pattern points to a new phase of systematic repression following Iran’s recent protest movement. Legal sources say the combination of mass arrests, denial of due process, and expanded use of capital charges raises fears of large-scale executions if international pressure does not increase.

More like theocracy, a crime of which Israel is also guilty.

Unfortunately, for the suffering Iranians, the only way out is to get to the tipping point of overthrowing the regime by more mass demonstrations. These protesters will likely also be killed in the streets or executed afterwards. But that's what it takes to overthrow a govt.

Iran doesn't give a rat's ass what the rest of the world thinks. We're heathens.

False.

Israel is not a theocracy.

While Israel defines itself as a Jewish and democratic state and religious institutions hold significant influence over certain aspects of life, it operates as a parliamentary democracy, not a system governed by religious clergy or strict religious law (halakha).
