Iran Strikes Coming? US Warns Ships to Avoid Iranian Waters

ABRAHAM lINCOLN.jpg

The United States has issued a stark warning to American commercial vessels to stay as far away as possible from Iranian territorial waters amid sharply rising tensions between Washington and Tehran.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration on Monday issued a six-month advisory telling U.S.-flagged ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman and the Persian Gulf to keep their distance from Iranian waters and to follow strict protocols if approached by Iranian forces. The guidance is in effect through August 8, 2026.

The Strait of Hormuz — a strategic sea lane through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes — has long been a flashpoint for regional tensions. U.S. officials note that Iranian naval forces have previously harassed ships, attempted to force them into Iranian territorial seas and at times seized vessels accused of smuggling.

Under the advisory, vessels are urged to:

  • Stay as far as safely possible from Iran’s territorial sea while maintaining navigational safety.

  • Transit closer to Oman’s territorial waters when moving east through the Strait of Hormuz.

  • If hailed by Iranian forces, provide the vessel’s name and flag state, affirm compliance with international law, and verbally refuse boarding if safe to do so.

  • Not resist forcibly if boarded, with safety of crew and vessel the priority.

The move comes as indirect U.S.–Iran talks continue in Oman over Tehran’s nuclear program, ballistic missile development and regional activity — but it follows a series of hostile maritime incidents. In recent weeks, Iranian naval boats tried to stop a U.S.-linked oil tanker in the Strait, and U.S. forces shot down an Iranian drone that approached a U.S. aircraft carrier.

The warning reflects a risk environment where disputes at sea could escalate, despite diplomatic efforts. The U.S. also recently imposed a 25% tariff on goods from countries trading with Iran as part of broader pressure tactics.

Energy markets reacted quickly: global oil prices jumped more than 1% after the advisory amid fears of supply disruption.

Key Takeaways

  • US warns all U.S.-flagged commercial vessels to avoid Iranian territorial waters amid high tensions.

  • Strait of Hormuz strategic risk: roughly 20% of global oil passes through this chokepoint.

  • Vessels should refuse boarding verbally under international law and not resist forcibly.

  • Recent hostility at sea — including attempted stops and drone confrontations — underscores the danger.

It will be over quickly.

Sure, in your dreams. I bet the thought of thousands of US casualties turns you on though.

Avoid mainly flying via Dubai, Qatar or Oman if you can. Take direct flights from your homelads and avoid those middle east airliners. At your own risk after all.

What a puerile response to a serious post!

Would you think Trump actually creates so many problems worldwide to lift the gold price? He loves gold you know, so it wouldn't surprise me if he has a stack.

I certainly love Trump for it, that is why I moved big into gold shortly after his inauguration. I never owned gold, other than some jewellery, before that date

What a correct reply to your giddiness over Iran "sinking" an American aircraft carrier.

What’s striking about this latest advisory is how it underscores the U.S. acting alone (just like Venezuela), seemingly on the whim of its administration, and without international backing.

If push comes to shove, it won’t be a coalition standing shoulder to shoulder with the United States. This time, they’re on their own in another Middle East confrontation.

That raises the sobering question as to whether the American people are truly prepared to accept the losses that could follow if this gunboat diplomacy escalates into outright conflict.

History shows that questionable intelligence, and hasty decisions, have led to costly entanglements before.

And yet, here we are again, with the risk of repeating the same cycle.

The real debate shouldn’t be about whether Washington should threaten Iran. It should be about why U.S. citizens aren’t demanding proper justification before their country risks lives, resources, and credibility.

Without that accountability, the danger is that the U.S. finds itself fighting alone, paying the price for decisions that were never fully explained to its own people.

Let’s all hope that Türkiye, Qatar, Russia, and Egypt can convince Iran to accept a diplomatic path before it is too late!

Yes, Trump needs a distraction from the Epstein Files.

What better way than to use all those "suckers and losers". That's what they're for, right?

Iran is no immediate threat whatsoever to anyone right now. Also, there was a perfectly effective nuclear deal that Trump quashed...because Obama lives rent free in the Mar-a-Lago of Trump's demented and addled brain.

You mean the fact that he was the first one to complain about Epstein and Maxwell to the FBI?

Or convince Trump to shut up and withdraw his threats (TACO)!

Why pick on Iran for it's nuclear ambitions when many other countries already have the weapons but Trump does not and dares not to threaten them!

I am sure that there must be a US zoo with a suitable chimpanzee!

There won't be any losses, or they will be minimal. Iran has nothing except a bunch of tin pot missiles that they'll try to shoot at Israel to keep killing Jewish civilians like they constantly threaten and do. The minute the bombs start falling on the revolutionary guard barracks Iran will collapse like that House of cards it is

I hope to hell that we never have to find out just how misguided and uninformed you are about naval warfare and Iran's military capabilities!

Iran possesses a range of advanced anti-ship missiles;,

Khalij Fars: This supersonic anti-ship ballistic missile is designed to target naval vessels with high speed and precision. It has a range of approximately 300 kilometers and can travel at speeds of Mach 3 to Mach 4, making it difficult to intercept. The missile carries a 650-kilogram warhead, capable of inflicting severe damage on large warships.

And what would take it's place?

The same kind of regime changes as happened after US regime overthrows in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya etc

Wow a missile from 2011. Keep spewing Iranian propaganda.

None of those countries is a threat to the world anymore. Mission accomplished.

Try being realistic instead of just a cheerleader for your Iranian/Islamacist masters. Tossing in a few more Trump insults to make yourself look good to your crowd

Which mission accomplished? The US ran away with their tails between their legs . You really should do something about your ego, because soon your face will be full of egg.

It is unlikely the Iranians will be able to launch any missiles. The USA has already demonstrated its air superiority and capability to enter airspace and shutdown defensive systems. The missile stockpiles would most likely be destroyed before they could be launched.

It might come as a relief to the tens of thousands of iranians being killed, raped, and tortured by the IRG. I expect millions of Iranians would rejoice if thousands of IRG thugs were neutralized.

The USA is still in Iraq. It did not run away from Libya because it was never in Libya. And as for Afghanistan, weren't you one of the people demanding the USA withdraw? There was no need to remain in a lost cause culture. Afghanistan isn't bothering the USA or the free world now is it? Any threats from Kabul next time will see the city turned to sand.

Love the sarcasm....good one!cheesy

On a serious note, if by some miracle they did or any US warship, it would be the very last thing they did!

Laying the groundwork in venezeula cuba iran etc to crank up a big war and then declare he has to cancel the mid term elections due to national emergency.

I suspect the target date is around the first of june a few months prior to mid terms. Massive protests met with sending the gestapo to create violence and riots and then cancel elections.

Anything to change the momentum to keep from losing control to dems as well as keep epstein from being the lead story.

Who cares if a few hundred thousand or million people die?

It has been confirmed the The USS George H.W. Bush Carrier Strike Group (CSG-10) is currently transiting at high speed, to the Med.

When the USS George H.W. Bush and its strike group arrive, the U.S. will have a massive concentration of naval power in the region—numbering approximately 20 to 22 warships spread between the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

This represents one of the largest naval build-ups in the Persian Gulf theater

I'd take the opposite side of that bet.

The nature of warfare has changed dramatically over the last two decades. You're assuming the US has stayed on top of technological advances. If you look at the US military arms industries, their primary goal is collecting has much revenue and profit from the US government by supplying weapons systems which looks like wonder-weapons, but are yet not truly battle tested against a peer or near-peer opponent, or even a country that most Westerners consider to be a bunch of backwards, camel-riding, goat-herders. The US is governed by greed, hubris, and narcissistic view of the country's infallibility via "Might Makes Right."

I do not for a second believe it will "be over quickly." I also don't think there will be any "winners," on the contrary, there will be nothing but many losers. But hey, US ideologues gotta believe in the superiority of the US as The Greatest Nation On Planet Earth Bar None. Hubris doesn't win wars, it provides an opening for the opposing side to exploit. US neo-cons want the same thing they have wanted since 1979 - "Regime Change" in Iran by any means necessary and at any cost. The US citizenry will balk when the bill comes due if they go through with bombing Iran again I'm afraid.

It took six carrier battle groups to invade Iraq. Just saying...
