A break-in at the residence of Samut Prakan's Asavahame family occurred on Tuesday, with the suspect firing four shots into the air before fleeing the scene. Police arrested Phorathep Damrongkittikul, 48, who claimed to be under the influence of the deity Nezha. Officers seized weapons and drugs from his home during the arrest.

The incident took place at around 10 am when Veerapoj Wimolchayakorn, the house caretaker, confronted the suspect. Phorathep had driven onto the property claiming to be hired by “Ae Chonsawat” for maintenance work. Chonsawat Asavahame was a notable figure in local politics who passed away in 2023, and his family has a history of political engagement in the region.

As the confrontation unfolded, the suspect fired shots into the air. Although the caretaker managed to disarm him initially, Phorathep brandished another firearm, forcing the caretaker to retreat. The suspect then left the scene, and police utilized CCTV footage to track and arrest him later at his residence in Samut Prakan.

Following his arrest, Phorathep exhibited erratic behavior and resisted police efforts, prompting officers to employ a stun gun and pepper spray. He attributed his actions to being possessed by Nezha, a deity revered in multiple Asian religious traditions. During a reenactment of the event, Phorathep continued to make incoherent statements.

Chontida “Pleng” Asavahame, daughter of the late Chonsawat Asavahame, reassured the public via Instagram that no one was harmed and expressed gratitude for the concern shown by well-wishers. She humorously referenced the incident with a video mocking the arrest and the suspect's claims of divine possession, reported Bangkok Post.
