Anyone Living In/near Krabi Town?

Featured Replies

hi,

I've been living in Thailand (currently in bkk) for 2 years and i would like to relocate. Was thinking about CM but the polution there seem to be a major problem.

Would love to hear some feedback from folks living in or near krabi town.

I would need to find a small house in this area (with garden). How easy is it to find? Or an alternative in the mean time could be an apt rental (1 bedroom) in the city.

How would you rate the quality of life there?

My plan is also to open a business in the region, my 'target customers' would be more the backpacker and 'new age' type . I'm guessing Krabi town is a little too far from the sea (30 km i believe) for becoming a major touristic spot in the futur...what do U people who live there think? Is the city 'expanding' fast? Which specific area do u think has potential for becoming a bigger touristic destination (ao nang being already well developed)?

Thanks :o

I don't live there... but know a guy who does... I asked him about this,,, and he said it is very easy to find accommodation like what you mentioned. He also said that unless you are carrying around 10,000,000 baht, you can can all but forget about starting a business anywhere other than K-Town, the prices for rent in the beach areas have gone through the roof for ownership.

The area is expanding rapidly, and the beach areas are seeing the less expensive places go out of business as their property is bought up by large resorts... therefore, where do you think all the backpackers are going to go? Krabi-town...

oh yeah, renting a 1 bedroom room in the town is "cake" ... says my friend. and even services places like guesthouses, are offering 30-50 % discounts because of the low season. especially for long term.

I can put you in touch with him if you like... PM if that is the case because i don't want to violate some terms of agreement or something :o

cheers

True, K-town isn't a tourist spot itself, per se, but TONS of tourists pass through and spend a night or two, so the tourist businesses are thriving and plenty. If you're coming or going from just about any where in Krabi province, chances are you'll pass through Krabi town at least once, if not twice.

Thanks for your replies.

Yes, i kind of figured out that anywhere near the beach would be out of my budget.

How seasonal is the tourists influx? From what i understand, Krabi is subjected to (very) heavy rain half of the year.

Thanks Rilly. i will get i touch with you when/if i'm ready to make the 'big move'.

Iyah, the area near Immigration and all the way down to the river in Krabi Town is the most popular for backpackers. Many stay there en route to Phi Phi or further south. November to May is high season

There were plenty of backpacker types in guesthouses when i was there a couple of months ago, although most seemed to be passing through. The accommodation I looked at was rubbish and expensive compared to the guesthouses here in Phuket. I didn't like Krabi town at all and would want to spend some serious time looking around before deciding to invest.
