Hi,

Just dumped my crappy Nokia for the P990i, and upgraded to the latest firmware. It's a little more buggy than I expected but it's just really to tide me over until I can get an unlocked iPhone. And while I have it, I want to make the most of the P990i, so I need some advice. So owners, please help me getting started.

- iSync integration with Mac OS X doesn't really work. I have the plug-in (1.07) and I can sync contacts, but when I try to sync the calendar the phone crashes and restarts. Is there a workaround for this?

- GPRS - how do I get the P990i to act as a GPRS modem? I have it set up with *99# on AIS, but I just get a "no dial tone" error when I try to connect. The phone's web browser connects just fine, though I don't know if there is any indicator as to whether it's connected via EDGE or plain GPRS. I can see the "world" logo appear and verified that it's not using WiFi, and got the operator settings etc.

- Can I use the P990i as a fax? There are some options for "fax" but I don't see how to make it send or receive faxes. This would be very cool for me.

- Are there any good web browsers for the P990i out there? The built-in Opera is pretty weird - I can't seem to delete bookmarks, can't seem to change the home page so it keeps going to some semi-broken AIS page etc.

- Is anyone using the phone without the flip? It seems the whole flip/no flip thing really complicates the user interface. Is there a way to get all options in the "flip" state? E.g. I want to use the control panel but it doesn't even show up with the flip up?! The package contains a bottom piece that can be installed instead of the flip... I wonder if that would be better.

So the P990i is very quirky, but it's pretty fast in the latest firmware iteration, and has a lot of functions as well as quality hardware.

PS: You can get the latest firmware by following these steps - worked for me: http://blog.artesea.co.uk/2007/06/debrand-...0-for-free.html

I've just done the reverse and dumped my crappy P990i for Nokia E90 :o

Never had any problems using my P990 as GPRS modem via blutooth - I did find it best to turn off the Blutooth power saving function though (never used the cable for GPRS)

I took off the flip but had to keep re-attaching it for new firmwares - very annoying

Even after I upgraded the firmware the phone would still crash
