August 22, 200718 yr I've posted this in the Visa Section, but alas, no response as to the 'farang woman' angle. Neighbour asked for advice re Affirmation to Marry and questions regarding referees etc. Have answers to questions regarding referees and address, but can any of you ladies please advise as to the 'income' aspect? Advised neighbour thought that farang WOMAN marrying Thai MAN, did not have to show any income, and that she would be granted a yearly visa on basis of such marriage. Was I correct?
August 22, 200718 yr Yes that's correct Jitagon. I downloaded the Affirmation form from the British Emb website. When we went to immigration we were interviewed seperately to see if our stories matched up and we had to take the village head man to confirm that we'd been partners for some time. My Thai husband was asked about income and I wasn't as he officially supports me. Good luck
August 22, 200718 yr The affirmation to marry has absolutely nothing to do with income or anything else, unless they've changed the rules. But then, I am american and there were no questions like that on my affirmation to marry. Perhaps your friend is from a different country with different requirements? Affirmation to marry, from the US, merely states that you are eligible to marry and are not married to someone else somewhere else. you get this translated into Thai and then go to the MFA (I believe) to get permission to marry. It is exactly the same as foreign men marrying Thai women. No income is required for the one year extension of a non-imm o visa for western women married to Thai men, marriage license, tabien bahn, passport photocopies and I think, a letter from your PuYai Bahn stating where you live and that you are married. The husband is a requirement since it is he making the application for his wife. First applicants will most likely have to prove their marriage with photos etc. But after that, just the above. Initial application for a non-imm o visa is needs a marriage license. No income statement.

Not sure of the difference, if any, between male and female affirmation to marry, but the form I used does ask for income, and my stated income was also noted at the amphur when we subsequently married. Like you, it seemed irrelevant to me (for the purposes of marriage, at least, ignoring subsequent visa issues).
August 23, 200718 yr I just had to sign the paper declaring I wasn't already married and had no dependants...it also asked me what my annual income was and I told them I no longer had an income and they told me to just write my previous income, so they obviously don't really care (for farang women)! I didn't have to show any photos, only the affirmation and my passport and pay 20 Baht for the 2 certificates. We had the Buddhist ceremony the week after we "officially" married at the Amphur Muang.
