Thought i'd start a light hearted thread away from the war in Iran. On long haul flights what are our members pet hates. Flying from the UK I mainly fly with Arabic Airlines my hate is Arabs letting there kids scream there heads off when your trying to get your head down. Another is being held up in the Aisle because some idiot has took on a hand luggage case bigger than your case you put in the hold and he farts about trying to put it in the over head storage.

Not just Arab Parents with Kids, but a lot of parents don't seem to be able to keep their kids quietly occupied - all nationalities - but the Arabs do kind of take it to a new level sometimes. Peopl

Having to sit for up to 12 hours international. You watch three movies and are still only half way there. Once in a blue moon you'll have all three seats so you can lie dawn, or at least 2 to stretch out a little.

Someone who's coughing and sneezing through the whole trip, and ending up with a cold because of it. Having to wait for the "elite" to board the plane when everyone has to get on anyway, which should be the back to the front anyway.

I could give him the finger as I passed him by with my priority boarding....

Agree with the OP regarding screaming kids. They should put them in the hold or make them sit outside.

Anyone who takes more than two minutes in the khazi when you are queing. That seems like an eternity.

I always take 2 immodium prior to a long haul flight. Normally means I don't have to 'drop the kids at the pool' enroute. Makes things interesting on arrival or next day though.

I hate it when someone brings kids into business class on long haul flights.

I once took an economy flight from Bangkok to Singapore, where a parent gave their child an iPad to play children's songs at full volume during the entire flight.

Aisle lice. My pet peeve.

ProTip: the smaller the airline and the more exotic the destination, the better the chances are of seeing a chicken, naked toes, seatbelt ignorance or footprints on the toilet seat are

Didn't know you get long haul on a small airline.

That seems sort of short these days. I’ve been doing 19 hours in one shot.

Im too old. Im limiting myself to 11. If Im going to do 19, it better be in an air ambulance

The passengers who wait until the food trolley is sighted and rolling before getting up and going to the dunny.

The seat back recline 'slammers', especially the short-arsed ones that don't even need the extra room.

The back-of-the-bus passengers who stick their carry-on in the overheads at the front as soon as they're onboard to save them time when deplaning, but means the front overheads fill up before the front pax get boarded. CX boards passengers from front to back which nips this nonsense in the bud.

Sat in an Aislewith your arm just a few inches out so the food trolly knocks your arm or a passenger barging past you when your trying to get your head down, one of the most annoyers front of you decides to recline his seat boxing you in.

Nothing really bothers me. It is all a new experience. Everyday is a blessing.

People always moan about kids on planes. But really - in all the flights I’ve taken, it’s rarely the kid that’s the problem. It’s the parents. A well travelled kid with parents who actually parent is usually fine.

When my son was little I had a system. I told him the pilot could see the cabin through cameras in the ceiling. Every now and then I’d have a very serious fake phone call with the cockpit.

... “Hi captain… yes… he’s behaving very well… yes I’ll let him know you’re happy.”

Worked a treat.

Anyway - actual pet hates.

The seat recliner slammers. The plane reaches cruise and BANG the seat comes flying back like it’s been shot by a sniper. Yes yes, it’s their right to recline. But maybe just a quick glance behind first? Just to check you’re not about to crush my laptop or break my kneecaps.

Then the people who leap up the moment the plane stops at the gate. Doors still closed. Jet bridge not attached. Nobody going anywhere. But half the plane suddenly stands like they’ve <deleted> themselves.

Once I actually had an Indonesian lady basically land on my lap because she was trying to climb over me to get to the aisle. We ended up chatting for a bit which was nice… but that’s really not the point.

Baggage carousel huggers are another strange tribe. Instead of standing back they crowd the belt like its the last flight out of Dubai before air-space closes again - its as if they think their suitcase is going to escape.

Also the geniuses who put their carry-on anywhere except above their own seat. Six rows behind. Opposite side. Then when the plane lands they fight upstream through the aisle.

Bus gates deserve special mention. Absolute misery. Hot bus. Sweaty people. Doors open while everyone waits for the last 4 passengers who were buying Toblerone. Meanwhile the aircraft door is open to the heat and humidity and the cabin slowly turns into a greenhouse.

Then you’ve got the crop dusters. Those disgusting pigs who walk slowly down the aisle farting like they’re marking territory.

And the snorers. I once had a bloke snoring so loudly he kept me awake.

Finally - economy seats. Who designs these things? After about six hours my backside feels like its been sitting on a concrete paving slab. I have to start shifting around like a skeeting dog.

Hell !!!!!

Comment of mine as published in a NY Times article on long-haul flights:

The key to surviving long haul 12 to 18 hour flights?

You have to be very good at doing absolutely nothing.

BTW in almost 40 years of traveling US to Asia I always traveled flights over the Pacific even though there was eventually a 1 stop flight Bangkok to Orlando via Emirates. When asked why I didn't do that I would always say: Why would I want to travel over a war zone?

BTW2 When I first saw the topic heading I thought was about traveling with your pet on long haul flights i.e. pets in a cage.

Good opportunity to fast. 24 hour fasts are great for you.

well I'll have to make other fasting arrangements as I have not exited Thailand since 2019 before COVID

The way I read the topic title I thought this was going to be about your dog not liking long haul flights. 🤣

That would be okay, as the only people I haven't gotten along with in all my years have been either diagnosed with a mental illness or are showing most if not all of the symptoms of one.

And your assumption of being in a higher class also shows your type, so thank you for pointing that out also.

Seeing I've always been straight here about telling the truth, not going by opinions and always using facts and personal experience, that also shows how you see me, which doesn't fare well for you either. That comment about kids further tells your story. I avoid toxic people as much as I can, so sitting away from you would be to my advantage. Strike three and out.

Hardly. Guess you're okay with trolls deriding people here, and think defending yourself is wrong. By the way, I'm into women, so your comment is another assumption, and you should have remembered what I've said here about myself seeing your comment on me was off base.
