I'm was in the US Army, and back then, M60 was part of training on full auto. That's a fun toy.

I had a FLL, and probably shot every size / caliber of round there is between 22 up to 50 cal. Shot more powerful rounds that 30-06. Literally 1000s of rounds.

I'd take my FN49 - 8mm, or AK over 30-06, close range. Mini 14 for distance.

Lots of ammo companies are loading sub-sonic 30-06 (and .308) shells. They use them a lot hunting feral hogs close to residences where they can reduce the sound of a 30-06 with a suppressor so they don't disturb the neighbors or the cattle, especially in the wee hours. Not to mention, the pigs don't scatter. That only works (well) when it's a sub-sonic round.

Thanks for the update. But I don't think it means that he was opposed to Israeli policy. Just that he didn't want to campaign for Israel anymore because of the baggage that came with it in the form of speak bullies. In some ways he was a free speech absolutist.
