Human rights organisations are warning that two Iranian political dissidents, Vahid Bani Amerian and Abolhassan Montazer, face imminent execution.

The men were convicted of "armed rebellion against the state" in a trial described by Amnesty International as "grossly unfair" and "torture-tainted," relying on forced confessions.

Their fate is uncertain after they were transferred to an unidentified location on 30 March, with authorities refusing to provide information to their families or lawyers.

This follows the execution of teenager Amirhossein Hatami and four other political dissidents this week, with four more protesters also slated for execution.

Human rights groups have called for urgent international action to prevent further executions and ascertain the condition of political prisoners in Iran, which carried out a "mass killing campaign" in 2025.
