At least seven people were injured when part of a ceiling collapsed at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) reported on April 3. The incident took place on Good Friday, coinciding with Holy Week—one of the peak travel periods in the Philippines. All injured parties received immediate medical attention.

The partial ceiling collapse at NAIA Terminal 1 has prompted DOTr Secretary Banoy Lopez to task the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) with investigating the cause. Initial findings provided by New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) stated that seven individuals were hurt. Despite the disruption, airport operations remain unaffected, and flights continue as scheduled.

The DOTr emphasized its commitment to a detailed inquiry and the implementation of measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The situation is being monitored closely to ensure traveler safety and maintain normal airport functions.

Looking forward, authorities plan to conduct a comprehensive assessment to understand what led to the collapse and to ensure the structural integrity of the terminal. The results of this investigation are expected to guide future improvements and safety protocols at the airport.
