KYC Issues With Revolut?

Featured Replies

I wanted to ask if anyone here has had experience with KYC checks from Revolut, particularly cases where they request details about source of funds or income with threats of account closure if such documentation isn't provided.

I recently moved over to Revolut from Wise, and in the past I went through a fairly involved KYC review with Wise that required submitting bank and income statements. My understanding is that it may have been triggered by a larger international transfer I made at the time.

I am not assuming Revolut handles things the same way, but that experience has made me a bit cautious. I would appreciate hearing whether others have encountered similar requests, or if this is generally not an issue.

Source of funds and source of wealth checks should be seen by you as entirely separate from KYC checks. They all will be increasingly common as extremely strict auditing rules have been taken up globally.

You should expect that anytime you move a substantial amount of money then one of the banks or financial institutions involved or possibly all of them will request as a matter of routine procedure for evidence of the source of funds and source of wealth.

Prior to their request you should get the documents ready so that it will not delay you. All you need to do is get a paper trail together of where the money comes from (simply download a PDF statement of the transaction from each of the financial institutions involved in the transaction chain). You've got this.

Are you talking about an existing Revolut account or opening a new one?

Revolut has recently been approved by UK authorities to operate as a bank. This is a significant change and I assume that part of that 4-year approval process is to align with the existing banking KYC requirements.

My Revolut account is about 3 years old but so far, no changes noted on the app, and they have advised that right now, the app is working the same as before. The full rollout of the new expanded services will take another couple of months to complete. I am an infrequent user, so I won't be surprised if there are a few new security hoops or validations required if/when I use their services.
