Motorists in the Philippines will see their first fuel price rollbacks of the year starting Tuesday, April 13. Shell Pilipinas has announced reductions of ₱23 per liter for diesel, ₱6.50 per liter for gasoline, and ₱11.50 per liter for kerosene. These cuts provide relief after recent significant increases due to global oil shocks linked to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

The Department of Energy (DOE) has outlined minimum rollback levels, which other oil companies are expected to follow. The DOE announced estimated reductions of ₱20.89 per liter for diesel, ₱4.43 per liter for gasoline, and ₱8.50 per liter for kerosene. The price decrease is primarily driven by a temporary easing of geopolitical tensions, following a U.S.-brokered two-week ceasefire in the region.

Despite the ceasefire, tensions remain as the U.S. has taken measures to block ships in the Strait of Hormuz, potentially destabilizing the situation. This action has already caused Brent crude prices to rise by eight percent, reaching around $102 per barrel. There's uncertainty in the global oil market about future pricing, raising concerns for upcoming weeks.

In response to supply concerns, the Philippine National Oil Co.-Exploration Corp. (PNOC-EC) has secured an additional 329,000 barrels of diesel from Malaysia. This acquisition is part of the government's strategy to import a total of 900,000 barrels in April, with further shipments expected later this month.
