Two engineers die in fiery Rayong crash

Featured Replies

Two 30-year-old engineers were killed when their vehicle overturned, struck a high-voltage power pole and burst into flames on Sukhumvit Road in Rayong early on 29 August 2026.

The crash happened at about 3am on the outbound side of Sukhumvit Road, opposite Wat Chak Luk Ya, heading from Rayong city towards Ban Chang district.

Police Lieutenant Anuwat Khamdokrak, the duty officer at Huai Pong Police Station, received the report of the vehicle driver losing control, overturning and hitting the roadside electricity pole. The impact was followed by explosions and a severe fire.

Firefighters from Map Ta Phut Municipality sent fire engines to the scene. However, by the time it arrived, flames had engulfed and almost entirely destroyed the vehicle.

Residents heard two explosions

Suphattra Saengngam, who lives near the crash site, said she was asleep when she heard the sound of heavy braking, followed by two explosions in quick succession.

When she went outside, she saw the vehicle wedged against the electricity pole and rapidly catching fire. Local residents attempted to help the people trapped inside but were unable to reach them.

The two men died inside the vehicle.

Engineers were returning to their accommodation

Jaran Janmanee, administrator of the Zoom Rayong page, identified the driver as Te-chit, 30, and the front-seat passenger as Phonlathawat, also 30.

Both men were engineers at an industrial factory, according to Jaran. They had reportedly been dining in Rayong city before setting off back to their accommodation, and their families became concerned after contact was lost.

Jaran said the families had been informed of the deaths.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the precise cause of the crash. No conclusion has yet been announced on why the vehicle driver lost control.
