Seven retail stores in Da Nang have been fined VND215 million for selling counterfeit goods, including fake Gucci and Nike products. The shops, located in popular tourist areas Son Tra and Hoi An, were also ordered to destroy the counterfeit items. The action follows a raid in early April by the Market Surveillance Department, which seized 295 counterfeit handbags and 27 pairs of sports shoes.

These items, which were imitations of brands such as Gucci, Chanel, Hermes, Fendi, and Nike, were estimated to be worth VND178 million if genuine. The shops failed to provide any invoices or documentation for the goods. This crackdown was part of a broader campaign ahead of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, an event that draws many tourists.

Market authorities are committed to ongoing inspections to curb counterfeit activity in tourist and shopping areas. Repeat offenses or significant violations may lead to criminal investigations if necessary. Efforts are also underway to raise public awareness, ensuring businesses adhere to the law and helping consumers recognize counterfeit and low-quality products.

Looking forward, authorities plan to maintain stringent monitoring and reinforce public education on counterfeit identification. Continued vigilance aims to protect consumers and uphold the authenticity of market goods throughout Da Nang.

Only 7 shops in the whole city of Da Nang? They must have carefully targeted those few that forgot to pay tea money on time.
