Ho Chi Minh City has begun relocating over 400 trees to accommodate the construction of metro line No. 2 between Ben Thanh and Tham Luong. This major infrastructure project led to the uprooting of large mahogany trees on Truong Chinh Street near Pham Van Bach on Monday, paving the way for the S10 - Pham Van Bach underground metro station. The removal efforts, commenced over the weekend, aim to balance progress with safety, evidenced by traffic management measures at construction sites.

The Ben Thanh - Tham Luong metro line, spanning 11.3 kilometers with a significant portion underground, will connect central Ho Chi Minh City with its northwestern areas. Initiated in January 2023, the project is expected to be completed by 2030, with an estimated budget exceeding VND55 trillion. This line will intersect with metro line No. 1 at Ben Thanh station, integrating into a larger urban rail network projected to expand to 335 kilometers over the next ten years.

Local authorities have redirected traffic around the Truong Chinh - Pham Van Bach intersection to minimize disruption, while extensive systems including electricity and telecommunications have been relocated, highlighting the complexities of development in densely populated areas. The metro line's construction and corresponding tree removals, costing about VND1.4 billion, are a part of broader efforts to enhance city connectivity.

Looking forward, the project's completion will bolster urban transit, offering a robust alternative to road transport and alleviating city congestion. The development underscores Ho Chi Minh City's ambition to expand its transportation infrastructure, aiming for an extensive metro network that forms the backbone of urban mobility in the future.
