I need a new mobile phone SIM card – looking for advice

Featured Replies

I have an Android mobile phone, in that phone it has 2 SIM card slots ( can take 2 SIM cards )

Currently I have One TrueMove SIM card in that phone that I use only for making calls . I now want to buy and add a second SIM card that I can use to only access the internet . I don’t really want to buy a second SIM card , where I have to pay a fixed monthly amount ( package ) I would prefer if I could just top up the new SIM card to access the internet as I use it. Ive had a look at what SIM cards may be available , but the options are overwhelming. I’m now wondering if any one here may know of a SIM card option that would meet my above needs

AIS

DTAC

You might want to state what your needs are. How many GB a month do you go thru now on the internet, and where are you when using the most.

Only use phone, or do you have laptop/desktop also. Live in TH, and if at house/condo quite a bit, why not just get TOT service there, as can use phone off router, as I do, since most time on internet is at home.

If on internet away from home, or hotels, bars, coffee shops/restaurants, then you'll have access to free internet, just stay off sketchy sites, and don't access any of your banking or make purchases while on public internet.

I have very basic DTAC promotion, and more phone time & internet than I can use, as don't use much unless away from home. Wife is the same, with AIS, so we always have coverage with 2 different servers, when O&A. Priced at ฿350 & ฿300

At home with have unlimited TOT/CAT for ฿631 a month.

Any. Since you already have True, then perhaps a 50 baht AIS SIM. Then you can apply an available package to it when necessary.

But what is the point of the exercise? Why not simply add a data package to your existing SIM, as and when needed?

Don't rule out a monthly package if it gives the best value for your usage.

If there are months when you won't be using it just leave insufficient credit in the account so they can't take the monthly fee. It'll normally kick back in when you top it up again.

It all depends on your usage which is as yet unknown to us here.

And ?

If he has a True Sim he already has a DTAC Sim.

Sorry I did not mean it as an insult if that is the way you perceived it

Cheers – I’m looking to use the new SIM card to connect to the internet when I’m away from home ( I normally use my house WiFi to connect to the internet on my phone ) So if I’m away from home may be driving in my car, or shopping at different places, I can then use the new SIM card to connect to the internet , to may be search for a product detail on the internet. The new SIM card will not be used while I’m at home.

Is this likely to be daily, multiple times daily, only once a month or what? And what estimated volume of data during these times?

Much more information is needed to get the best recommendation, and also any reason you can't add whatever sort of package you need on your new SIM to the existing SIM as mentioned above?

You have as yet to state your minimum GB requirements - makes it hard to help.

I have one SIM card that does everything I need when away from home as you simplify your requirement. I also have at home internet.

I have TRUE mobile plan, 2GB @ month and phone call/SMS limits that I never reach - hotels, restaurants and other WIFI public access fill in any away from home internet requirements. My cost is only 100 Baht @ month for my pre-paid mobile. Mind you even if you do reach the limit it never actually stops/disconnects, it just offers degraded service.

All depends on how/when/where/why you use the internet when not at home. Everyone has various usage requirements, mine are minimal.

If possible and to make things easier I thought having a second new SIM card for only connecting to the internet , would be simpler

I've just signed up to AIS for monthly 225 baht for 10mbps for 120gb data. It will cost you more if you just buy a 50 baht sim and you pay for internet as and when.

After 5+ years they ended the 150 baht monthly 10mbps unlimited deal

Like me. I used only 60 GB since last April.

And I have a GOMO SIM card (technically AIS network, online / no service cheap version).

I have a 110 GB package for 699, unlimited speed (by theory).

Just renewed (online paid) for another year.

BUT: I couldn't register it in my name.

Needed step daughter to do,

I am afraid it's still the case.

Aside the volume packages they have plenty of different packages to choose from.

Are you sure? Mine are still up and running. I ignored the "5G 5GB and 115GB at 10 Mbps" offer. Won't be impressed if they remove my unlimited packages.

I don't think they need an 120GB allowance, so how can you assert that it will cost them more ''if you(they) just buy a 50 baht sim and you pay for internet as and when.''?

If you really want to have a separate SIM, then the GoMo/AIS 10GB SIM for 99 baht is a good place to begin.

As aforementioned, you will need a local family member or friend to register it.

If just a one off as and when, then tap out *777*7573# on the phone when connected with the SIM and credit applied and then hit the Call button. Same cost 28.89 baht for 30 days/800MB.

I wasn't 100% but I didn't get the usual messages i get monthly instead received this rogue message, see below. I decided for an extra 75 baht month it avoids the high cost of data with no monthly deal

using phone data with no monthly deal can be expensive, try it and see

That message had nothing to do with your Unlimited package. That pertains to a new device/mobile phone.

Maybe you can call them on 1175 to see if your old package is still up and running or if it has been cancelled since you signed up for a new one.

No one has suggested not going with a package deal, more so to buy a package as and when. Data can be switched off until needed.

I've never bought a device through them and like I said the normal messages i get ahead of monthly renewal didn't arrive. Anyway I'm not that bothered, happy with 225 baht a month

If you are happy, then no worries. It's not the amount of money, it's losing the Unlimited aspect. Theoretically, you could use up your whole allowance in a little more than one day.

Unlimited 10 Mbps is equal to 3.24TB per month(3,240GB).

These days i use my 3BB fiber most of the time, I'd be surprised if i used more than 5gb a month, but i like it incase there's an internet outage

At least you get Unlimited Any Network calls now 😊

We'll see if they renew it in six months time. Don't see why not.

Yes, they seemed happy to renew the old one for years so I'd expect the same with this one
