Upgrades to Nguyen Thi Dinh Street in Ho Chi Minh City face delays due to 200 utility poles remaining on the road. The project, costing over VND2 trillion ($75.95 million), began in April 2025 and is set to conclude in June. Although the road surface is mostly complete, the presence of these poles, some carrying cables and creating safety hazards, has hindered progress.

This key route connects the busy An Phu interchange and My Thuy roundabout, with dense traffic including vehicles weaving around poles at alley junctions. Local food vendor Hoang Danh, 45, noted that since the road’s widening post-Lunar New Year, the poles have caused night-time accidents, leading residents to use makeshift warning markers. Danh commented on the inconvenience, stressing the necessity of relocating utilities alongside road expansion.

The Ho Chi Minh City Power Corporation revealed that the Cat Lai Ward management board is responsible for both the widening and the subsequent removal of poles. Delays stem from compensation and relocation procedures. The power utility has urged the board to finalize paperwork for pole removal, with requests for reflective markings to improve safety.

Similar issues have affected other parts of the city. In January, Chu Van An Street's upgrades were hampered by remaining poles. In 2024, the expansion of Tan Ky Tan Quy, Duong Quang Ham streets, and Ba Hom Bridge faced identical setbacks due to relocation difficulties.
