Hello all,

I am new to Phuket, and I have been asked to take a trip to Angola and Uganda for 2 weeks, and was wondering where to go to have a Yellow Fever Vaccination done asap.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Just a note: there is a list of countries that Thailand considers to be prone to yellow fever, and once your passport contains a stamp from a country on that list, you must produce proof that you had the y.f. vaccination before entering Thailand. Therefore, before (re)entering Thailand, you need to have the proof at hand, when you apply for a visa to Thailand.

Ok.

I do consulting work, and I am new to the Asian Region. My mate owns a house here, and rents it to me. So I don't actually live here, I am on a 30 day Visa. I have to go to Angola for business and they say I need the Vac. for the visa. Upon finishing, I will return to Phuket and wait for work to call again. So when Thailand sees that I have been to Angola, they will need the stamp to prove I have had the Vac. OK. Got it.

I am told I need the Vac ASAP, and Bangkok Phuket Hospital said the only place is Immigration in the Airport?

Maybe I should just pass on the work? People tell me that the Vac makes you ill, and I need to be on my feet upon arrival.

Thanks

The vaccine has been subject to shortages in the past two years, so government facilities usually get priority. (As well, in Thailand it is the gov't that administers the WHO compliance program.) You didn't mention where you are on Phuket. If you are in Patong, try the provincial hospital on Sawatdirak Rd. I have a feeling though that you will have to go to Phuket town to one of the 2 biggies. Better yet, just call and ask. They have multilingual service capability.

Please remember that you need 10 days for the immunity before you are allowed to travel on the certificate. I suggest that if you have not done so, please screen yourself for HIV prior to innoculation. There have been some complications reported for seropositive subjects. Be sure to advise your health provider of any underlying imunosuppressive conditions (cancer, Aids etc, family history) as the vaccine must NOT be administered to such subjects. As well, if you have an allergy to eggs or gelatin, please make this clear.

Administration of the vaccine protocol requires that the nurse or physician have an epinehrine injection on standby in the event of anaphylactic shock.

You will most likely be given the 17D-204 strain vaccine which is a live attenuated 5ml dose. The dose is reconstituted and must be adminstered in less than 60 minutes otherwise it's useless. The manufacturer should be Sanofi Pasteur. Celltech of the UK was manufacturing but I can't recall if it exported to asia and the Brazilian brand BioManguinhos is intended for South American use.

Wow! Thanks Geri,I really appreciate all the insight. Thank you for taking the time. I have opted out of Angola and have chosen Sakhlin Island instead. They only require a tolerance to heavy doses of Vodka, warm clothing. Thanks again,Frank
