Pattaya Songkran Altercation: Tourist Attacked by Three Foreigners

Featured Replies

A video depicting a brawl among foreign tourists during Songkran festivities on April 17 on Pattaya Walking Street has surfaced online. The conflict involved three Middle Eastern men and an elderly European man. Despite the altercation, no formal complaints have been lodged with Mueang Pattaya Police, leaving the dispute’s cause unconfirmed.

The disturbance began after the group reportedly sprayed water in the elderly man's face, leading to a confrontation. A Thai woman captured the incident on video, describing it as a “gang attack.” Though bystanders intervened to break up the fight, the situation escalated from using toy water guns to a physical altercation, resulting in the older man being punched and kicked to the ground.

The video, which has spread widely on social media, shows concerns about tourist behavior during the Songkran celebrations. Despite evidence of the altercation, local police reported that neither party involved has sought legal action. Meanwhile, local venue operators and taxi riders in the bustling tourist area were largely unaware of any official complaint.

As disruptions among tourists can affect Pattaya's reputation, the incident raises concerns about safety and regulatory measures during heavily attended events. Authorities may need to consider implementing more stringent controls or increased policing during such festivals. With the local economy reliant on tourism, maintaining a safe environment is crucial for sustained visitor interest.

Thailand needs to figure out how to attract more quality tourists like this.

Happy Thai New Year.

Lol, arabs can't fight. They don't even know how to throw a punch correctly. That fat old white bloke looks like trash.

Foreigners on foreigner. 🫪

Poor Thailand

It's good to see the water bottle strapped to his back survived 😂

What do you mean "like"?

These tourists fight like the locals!

Another fatty idiot with a water rucksack? Or the same like from another thread from WS?

He looked dark skinned there?

These middle eastern gentlemen cause violence and misery wherever they go. Luckily this old guy only suffered minor injuries, at 3 on 1 it could have been a lot worse. From what I've read over the last few days, that demographic have been involved in a lot of the violence over Songkran. Watch out tomorrow, it'll make the previous days of the festival appear tame.

Again, is it my PC or this site yet again causing the problems? Anyone else having similar issues?

All of these lead stories with video are in a weird format - The video is about two times the size it should be and you cannot fit the entire video on the screen. YT has no problem, it is only this site, some weird format? Do I need to change some settings?

Tourist by definition is a foreigner.

But a foreigner might not necessarily be a tourist.

So it’s a non resident foreigner being attacked by his permanent resident peers

Pitiful, but what do you expect? Several of the men had tattoos. ☹️

The place is full of far right grifting nazis high as a kite on kush... pathetic English scum should never be allowed here

While people are focusing on nationalities, I still think this Songkran concept is a bad idea.

Maybe Songkran should specifically be banned or tightly regulated in tourist areas.

Back before tourists arrived, it may have been a very special Thai celebration.

But clearly, it incites many people to act like savages and "gangbang" people with their guns.

Yep, he got lucky they are not good at fighting.

He could have gotten himself killed. 3 much younger guys against an old guy is dangerous.

Videos are very large for me too, using Firefox browser.

Humans are not civilized....when everyone understand that, they will avoid events like this celebration. We are still animals,,,our brains is just a little bigger than monkeys. Do not believe me, look at the Monkeys in this country and observe their behavior....you will then understand.

Livin the dream.

Hum

Much action /little effect

If the outnumbered lump had put in a little groundwork into how to transfer his size/weight into telling blows the three ineffective dipsh1tz could have been sparked.

They're Israeli... I can spot them a mile away

Maybe you should go live somewhere else. This is Thailand, their country, their customs. We are all just visiters here, mongols like the arabs in these videos should just be locked up ,then deported.

What I saw on that video didn’t look much like any Thai custom I know.

It’s quite sad really, splashing with water used to be a respectful traditional process, then it became a fun water fight, now it’s an aggressive fight full stop.

It's particularly bad this year, yes. Tourists coming view it as a license to behave like idiots. Just like marijuana - it should be restricted to locals - it is bringing the wrong kind of tourists.

What are you talking about? What have any English have to do with this thread... ??

There is so much misbehaving, mischief, craziness and violence going on during songkran that it's really quite unreasonable to single out foreigners, and to make it seem as if it's a problem being created by foreigners or tourists. That is misleading, and it sounds downright xenophobic to me.
