These Days: Driving in the car; Smoking a cigar: Our only happiness?

Featured Replies

Dear Folks,

It really seems to me that the world is going to heck…..

And so, I ask you:

  1. Is there any real pleasure in life, these days, with bombs dropping, willy-nilly?

  2. Yes, there is.

  3. But there can only be true happiness through remembrance and nostalgia.

  4. This is why I love this song, N. S. U.

So, what do you think?

Is our world going to heck, or what?

And, does listening to this great music provide you with an all-too-brief respite from facing our reality today?

I suggest that we all focus on these simple lyrics, because we need to keep things simple, these days, or….we might risk progressing into complete madness.

Yes, Folks, the world has gone crazy.

Neither you nor I have the power to put things right again.

We are merely observers of the madness which continues to unfold and unravel.

We can only look back, if we seek sanity.

Because, there probably won’t be any future for the sane.

DIG…..!

You know what I’m talking about.

Let’s all hunker down, and maintain our stiff upper lip.

Stiffness is one of the best qualities of guys from England, too.

I wish Americans, these days, had more traditional British backbone, in fact.

Best regards,

Gamma

Important Note:  I am NOT saying that I have ever experienced Non-Specific Urethritis while living in Asia. But, I still respect this song.

In Australia the government is mis managing our resources, more concerned about the environment, outsourcing most of our valued jobs overseas to make the idiots in government look good at the same time lining their own greedy pockets while the Aussie battler suffers.

People who voted labour should be ashamed of themselves.

Things were better at Albert Hall, for a brief interlude.....

But, one cannot hide from reality for long.

All 22 are great, and this is Number 7.

There are many simple pleasures in life, music being just one of them, along with animal friends, sunrises and sunsets, the love of a good woman, watching your children grow up respectful towards others, and again that music which has likely saved many lives and taken others out of depression, at least for awhile. This song, Simple man, by Lynyrd Skynyrd tells a good story...........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMmTkKz60W8

Live for today, for tomorrow ye may die.

That old mantra may well make more sense today than ever, because the world is hellbent on destroying itself, and now it can.

First, the willfully ignorant, the corrupt fascist righties, and the Neo Nazis like Trump and Netanyahu---who think genocide is either a clever negotiating tactic (Iran) or a wise policy move (Gaza, West Bank and Lebanon)---are doing their level best to make sure life sucks for as many people as possible. The demented lunatic Trump also has the nuclear football and sole authority to launch nukes...and can do it in less than one minute (as the nuclear football has both attack plans and a commo device to issue the order...Trump could do it just to show off to guests at Mar-a-Lago).

Second, the accumulation of uber wealth in the hands of increasingly fewer is altering both politics and society in ways almost unimaginable.

In the US, Citizens United gave money politics untold power. EVERY special interest now has a PAC. AI, Crypto and Prediction Markets now have huge PACs with massive influence over politicians, whose sole goal is re-election. For example, the two largest Prediction Market companies---Polymarket and Kalshi---both hired Trump's son Don, Jr. to "advise" them, so now it's perfectly okay to place bets on things like what weapons the US will use in Iran or how many US service people will be killed in Trump's war. (When there's enough money on the line, it might even impact official policy in things like war.) That sort of immorality makes Sodom and Gomorrah seem like Mr Roger's Neighborhood, not cities in line for the wrath of the Old Testament God.

The AI PAC is likely the one that will kill us. AI CEO money salves any fear a rational politician might have over the dangers of AI. The top 5 CEOs in the industry have all said they think AI has a 25% chance of wiping out humanity...yet they all push and influence head-on, each hoping to be the first Trillionaire. (AI Godfather Geoffrey Hinton says AI has a 10-20 chance of being an extinction event, but he's no longer as close to the capabilities as Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Zuck, etc., who are making the most consequential bet in human history, putting 8,500,000,000 lives on the line for their own personal gain.)

AI has so many ways to kill us, not the least of which is AI just thinking humans are in the way and they steal too much needed energy for things like cooking and flying and staying warm or cool, when AI data centers could make "better use" of all that wasted energy.

The drunkard Pete Hegseth is increasingly incorporating AI systems into US attack capability, despite legitimate lack of control-ability. In attack simulations, AI systems choose nukes 95% of the time, because "morality" isn't part of their thinking. Their decision trees are merely crushed data and odds of outcomes.

AI in "the wrong hands" can also set the world a tumble. Anthropic is limiting the sale of its new Claude Mythos to 40 corporations, as Amodei knows the system is slick enough to hack ANYTHING---including the Federal Reserve (Jerome Powell has raised this). Cleaning out your bank account or crypto wallet is child's play, as is turning off the electric grid or the cooling systems of a nuclear reactor or advising the pilot of an A380 on final approach that Runway 130 is clear. AI in the wrong hands even could hack the "nuclear football" and send the proper launch codes to start Armageddon.

Those threats are all real, but no one is doing anything, because officials with the authority to impose controls are too pleased with their campaign contributions and supplied mistresses to do anything on behalf of wider humanity.

So.....enjoy Cream if that moves you. Splurge for that '61 Petrus if that's your thing. Fill up the Lambo and run it pedal to the metal on Highway 7. Do the same to your Cigarette 515 without a care in the world about the fuel burn. Give an extra boom boom to your girlfriend or paramour or both......for tomorrow ye may die.

By the way:

Last night, I updated my 4TB Samsung (I mean: Samsung 990 PRO (4B2QJXD7) firmware)

I am now completely up to date on this.

image.png

image.png

I got the last one, several months ago.

I just updated the newest firmware.

I know you know how happy I am about this....

For me, it's waking up at five a.m. and sitting on the porch, drinking coffee and farting a little bit, watching the cat play in the yard, listening to the birds. Simple, and doesn't cost a lot of money.

At some point the US will go bankrupt and the dollar becomes worthless. Might as well be like one of the French fishermen described by Hemmingway and enjoy the moment, not knowing what will happen:

"I knew several of the men who fished the fruitful parts of the Seine between the He St-Louis and the Place du Vert-Galant and sometimes, if the day was bright, I would buy a litre of wine and a piece of bread and some sausage and sit in the sun and read one of the books I had bought and watch the fishing.

Travel writers wrote about the men fishing in the Seine as though they were crazy and never caught anything; but it was serious and productive fishing. Most of the fishermen were men who had small pensions, which they did not know then would become worthless with inflation"

When one has a full belly, then fishing without catching fish is a plan.

Exactly.

Avoiding cigars and crappy music is a good place to start.

These are good times. The world is merely going to heck. In the past it has actually gone to heII. I hear that's a worse place. Note: The world has ALWAYS been going to heII, just ask the dinosaurs who looked up and saw that meteor. Or ask your grandparents and their grandparents, speaking of dinosaurs.

Driving a car with all the parking stress and hassles and risk of getting involved in a accident with all the rash thai drivers or risk to getting stopped and racketed at a road block ? I far prefer to move around with a driver who handles all of this.

Smoking a cigar ? Sure why not. It's my heirs who will be glad if I live less long 🤣

I must admit, your magnificent ability to babble about mindless nothingness, bordering on industrial strength slop, never ceases to disappoint.

Should say in letters across the top Bangkok Tour 2026

then below that the word Girls, the leaf below and then Weed. Maybe a cartoon girl holding the leaf.
