The Deer Hunter

Featured Replies

According to IMDB it's the River Kwai:

River Khwae to rhyme with hair. Though incorrectly translated and thus mispronounced in English as Kwai due to the John Wayne film.

Having said that there are no shortage of kwai on Thaivisa. I myself am often one. :o

Almost all new movies are filmed in Thailand. The location is generally from the back of a theater The footage is then formated for DVD and sold for 100 baht. But seriously, I think a lot of vietnam

Hi, my wife and I are taking a vacation in Thailand next year and while we are in Bangkok, we intend to visit Patpong, which was used in the filming location of The Deer Hunter starring Robert De Niro.

One of my hobbies is finding the filming locations of some of my favourite films which include The Deer Hunter. I was wondering if anyone might be able to pinpoint some of the locations used? I have a website at http://www.filminglocationsdetectives.com/...eer_Hunter2.htm

which has all the stills from the movie. This will help me out considerably with my pre-planning.

Kind regards

Roly

p.s does anyone know off other movies which were filmed in Bangkok?

The river scenes were filmed at Sai Yok which you could visit in a day trip from Bangkok. It's worth seeing anyway.

The locations there are probably more recognizable than those around Patpong.

Here's a couple of photos I took earlier this year.

Thanks for the reply lawling and for the photos, we intend to stop in Kanchanaburi for a couple of days as we want to see the bridge of the river Kwai and the waterfalls. Sai Yok, is very rich with historical places Hellfire Pass will be on my agenda. So hopefully we will spot the actual filming locations used in the river scenes.

I was in Patpong the night they filmed "Deer Hunter" scenes there. As another poster advised, the bar was the "Mississipi Queen". One of the dancers there actually appeared in the movie. She had heaps of business after that from punters who wanted their fifteen minutes of fame.

I think if you replace most with some you'll be closer to the mark.

This topic may be different though.

Cheers

She had heaps of punters? ..... She was probably in a few films they sell at Pantip as well!

They would have to be 8mm films and she'd have a few miles on the clock now. DVD hadn't been invented then and I can't remember if VHS was out yet or not.
