A total of 108 families in Manila have been given permanent homes as part of the city government's in-city vertical housing initiative. Led by Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso and Vice Mayor Chi Atienza, the units were handed over at San Lazaro Residences, emphasizing the city's commitment to providing stable housing for informal settlers.

This initiative is part of a larger effort to support families transitioning from temporary assistance to permanent housing through public-private partnerships. The collaboration involves local government bodies, private developers, and community partners working together to address the urgent housing needs in Manila. The program aims to create a more secure future for qualified recipients of government social programs.

During the turnover ceremony, Mayor Domagoso acknowledged the program's limited reach but stressed the importance of its continuation. Highlighting the progress made, he said, “You are just among the few from the thousands who have benefited from our program... That is why I am happy for your progress.” Domagoso emphasized continued collaboration and compassion as vital components of the housing efforts.

Vice Mayor Atienza supported the initiative alongside Domagoso, expressing commitment to the city's ongoing housing projects. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting the stability, safety, and new beginnings these housing units provide their families.

Manila's housing program is set to expand, with projects like the Binondominium under construction. These efforts are part of a comprehensive urban development and relocation strategy aimed at further mitigating the city's housing challenges.
