Have you tried visiting the MRT web page? It is in English language so even you can follow along.

Right here, it begins their explanation for switching from the current card to the new one, which continues on another page but you get the idea.

Didn't see a link at the site for English, but 'translate page' sufficed.

Nothing there about the replacement card being available for Thais only. But every single report I've read in the last six-seven weeks, since the time of their big announcement, of foreign residents turning up at MRT station counters to flip the stored-value card for the contactless payment one has resulted in them being denied, because "it's only for Thais."

You want to call that whining?

I don't know, that's just reporting the reality on the ground. It'd be better if they just come right out and say it, "for Thais only." Maybe a foreigner who has a Thai national ID card can get their EMV card? I don't know, whatever....

If you've got a better link for the MRT, why don't you post it? Don't keep all that extensive MRT info to yourself.

There is no sinister plot. This was announced as part of the Common Ticket Policy to allow for a single card payment system for all public transit. You are making a fool of yourself. The new Mangmo

That's just a lame excuse, typical for an apologist. Surely they could have different kinds of EMV cards that are CODED differently to give different kinds of pricing to different kinds of cardholders

During busy times, the queues at (for example) Sukhumvit are already half an hour long to "get a token". They're going to explode if foreigners can't get stored value cards. Especially those with kids and more family members than they have viable contactless cards.

They're shooting themselves in the foot. Again.

Yes the announcement of the ban for foreigners to stop coming to Thailand just because they cant get an MRT card was all set to go out just before the middle esst conflict broken out. Damn the bad luck
