My 5 year old 3BB router seemed to be slowing down, and only WiFi5, so last month I asked , at a 3BB kiosk, if I could get an upgrade. Next day two men came in a 3BB van, new router WiFi6, all sorted out in 1 hour including extending the optic cable, coming to me through the trees, so now my router is in the middle room (lounge) of the house and works perfectly, as I pay for.

I appreciate your time. I'll log a call with The Boys and get an upgrade.
Thanks.

Sure, you can do that, but you'll end up with slow Internet vs fiber optic broadband.

I have had 1Gb/s with 3BB for years paying Bht 749. Very few outages/stops. They are now part of AIS.

Though I guess it's not possible in alot of condo buildings if you have access to true fiber it is amazing, and very well priced.

This coming-through-the-trees description sounds about as clear to me as the poem coming through the rye.

Your 3BB router will not "slow down". It will work or it won't work, one or the other.

The local government has now approved WiFi6 and WiFi7, as of late 2023, it seems.

My motherboards have WiFi7 onboard.

But, I don't use WiFi, and I choose Ethernet.

You should, too, if you want to reduce latency and augment security.

I have said goodbye to routers. I have a pocket WiFi. 100 GB /month allowance. I use about 70% of the 100GB.

I can use it untethered in the condo, or tethered with my desktop in the village. Within Thailand, I can take it anywhere with my smartphone.

Possibly fibre is superior in some ways, I have yet to see a difference with what I use the internet for.

I am saving about 5000 baht in the first year of use. I will be saving even more next year, after writing off the cost of the WiFi shell and rechargable shell.

You still have a router 😋

''Çoming through the trees' means that the optic cable bypasses some tall brown things with green things at the top.

Coming through the rye is an old English folksong about......yep, walking through a field of rye cereal.

My router/internet WILL slow down, partly depending on time of day and how many are using it at that particular time. I am usually up to speed, 1000/500 Mb/s.

Which 'Local Government' is it that has approved WiFi 6 & 7, and when will it be the National Government's decision.

From where does the pocket WiFi get its signal to then use ''untethered'' ? Does it have a SIM card?

A Smartphone, as far as I know, has got built-in WiFi, which can then be hot-spotted to wherever you want, so it is basically acting as a router.

Fibre is FAR FAR superior to any WiFi or phone if you need to do anything other than emails, Farce Book, etc.

You are saving Bht 5000 a year, that's a full Bht 400 a month. For what?

Who can put a thumbs down on a simple question and statement. Whoever you are, please explain. Thanks.

It has a SIM card. The problem with the smartphone - it already has Austrakian and Thai SIM cards, and my Thai GF shares the WiFi.

What is the "anything" fibre is FAR FAR superior at? I can't see any difference in the applications I use on my two computers.

What's wrong with saving money on a service? Why would I want to be a mug?

Are you the kind of person who will get his vehicle serviced at a dealer by an apprentice, when an independent mechanic will do it better and cheaper?

IF your Thai GF also shares the WiFi , you will not get very good speed obviously 30Mb/s, which is at which most SIM cards receive 5G, , but if you are only doing simple things, as I mentioned, and not streaming some of the rubbish available. You need 25Mb/s to stream UK or other TV however you do it. You could consider buying HER a phone.

Hey, nothing wrong with saving a few bob where you can, my favourite restaurant is Cheap Charlies! No, no, that's a joke, I don't live in Pattaya.

And YES, I am the person who bought a Toyota Vigo in 2012, have taken it to the main dealers on time, every time, and know that I am paying over the top for stuff, but NOTHING has EVER gone wrong with it. So I am happy, Daisy is happy, and if & when I flog it, the new owner with know it's history, which, is very important in UK, but not here??? It will probably outlive me!

She has two phones. I don't stream. My son in Australia does it for me, puts the TV series on a 2 TB drive, and posts it to me. Landman, Reacher, The Lincoln Lawyer etc.

Perhaps I did not explain my situation clearly enough. I was shelling out for an internet service, with fibre routers at the condo AND the village. Now, I am only shelling out for one WiFi service.

I am a minimalist. About 12 years ago, I bought a Toyota Vios for 230,000 baht, 83,000 km on the odometer. It's been all over northern Thailand. now 205,000 km. Worth about 80,000 baht now, has never missed a beat. My independent mechanic loves it, because it is so simple to work on. It will probably outlive me too.

I sometimes wonder about the Brit who sold it to me, he was "upgrading" to a new Ford Focus.

Each to his own, you're happy. I'm happy.

A friend just "inherited" a 2007 Vios with 300,000+km on the clock from an elderly aunt who can no longer drive. Engine runs smooth and clean, not a hint of smoke, no leaks anywhere. Suspension and steering was overhauled 100,000km ago, still tight. Paint still looks showroom (she had a car-port) and all the power options: windows, etc. working. Amazing car.

The Vios 1.5 L 1NZ-FE engine is basically bulletproof. Understressed. low compression ratio, overcapacity cooling system, simple fuel injection. Boring, but utterly reliable.

Same here since 2020. 3BB even send text if ever any downtime. Superb customer service too.

3BB has been the very best for quite some time.

However with the buyout by that company AIS, I had expected 3BB service and reliability to PLUMMET.

And, this is only logical.

Just how much the service has plummeted, this is difficult to guage or assess.

It was a sad thing when 3BB was taken over.

And then DTAC was taken over, in the same way, by a different company.

Soon there will be no choice of providers.

3BB customer service operators, who usually know nothing, will tell you that there has been no change in service.

What a pity.

I moved mobile phone from DTAC to AIS in 2020 due to dropped signals. Almost same time, I moved home brodband from AIS VDSL to 3BB Fibre for internet. Both were excellent moves and I'm still with them now. 3BB have given excellent service.

How does that move the ball forward?

Well you are recommending an ISP that has been taken over, Is it still operating outlets in the malls?

I don't go to malls.

I don't shop at Walmart, either.

Didn't even know there was one in Pattaya!

I besides Walmarts, I also make it a rule to never go to Pattaya.

Anyway, you need not worry about whether or not 3BB has shops in malls or Walmarts.

Just google the 3BB service hotline, provide your address, and they will arrive to install a fiber internet connection.

If you have a passport, then send them a copy.

Or, just follow the instructions they provide.

Unfortunately, AIS seems to have taken over procurement of routers.

I think this is a bad thing.

I think that 3BB might have used better procurement practices.

This is why the AIS buyout of 3BB is bad, among various other reasons, of course.
