Well, I grew bored and left. Forgot my password and username. Been away for months My life has been perfectly splendid if not even better for it.

There used to be individuals that had some really excellent specialized knowledge on the board. Condos, banking, like that.

The old members have literally died off. Many of them had enough of the trolls and the political nonsense. There are a few members to absolutely dominate the board and they can do quite a headache.

Not really miss it at all.

Yes it was a fun if niche place run by early refugees from here it would seem with much lighter rules. But it's the canary in the coalmine for old school forums.

There was a retired British chap on here I remember about 5 years ago and for the life of me, I can't remember his name. He lived in Isaan, rural with a very small holding and had a pond/mini lake and used to do weekly updates about what was going on around his life and area, was popular for ages, wholesome and I found it interesting in a simple way and many others chipped in with their bits n bobs..............I'd love to find his old posts or know if he's still on AN.................any clues....??

This actually happen 10 years ago, on another type of forum.

Members went crazy. No news update on fb why the forum was down, so members opened and refreshed the page multiple times every day. Guilty myself as well.

Finally after two weeks the forum was up and running again. Members was overjoyed, finally they got their fix.

Admins got a big dose of criticism, why no reason was given on fb, during the down time.

Move forward another month, and the forum was down again.

Never to be back up again. Again no public announcement.

We think it doesn't matter, life goes on. Right?

Sure it does, but most will miss "their" forum much more than one can imagine, as long the forum is up and working.

So to answer the question:

Let's hope it never happen.

My life would be the same. The old codgers would be lost.

Tony in Thailand is one that was married, had a daughter and lived on a farm in Isaan. Al;ways posting about growing things with help from extended family. Genuinely bewildering how somebody can spend what appears to be most of their waking life on a forum filled with people they openly claim to dislike, either for personal or political reasons, or both.

According to him, nearly everyone else on the site he views as lonely, bored, isolated, clueless, inexperienced, friendless, untraveled, and lacking self awareness, yet his own behaviour reads like a reflection of all those very things combined. What I need is a break from the internet, and to stop finding excuses for not working more than I do.

I need a big workshop, more tools, and air condition. That is what I need. This is just a substitute, and a bad substitute, for not having enough real things to do.

Excessive travelling is the same. Also just a substitute for having something better to do.

So yes, call it a privilege if you want, to waste time on nothing. But it is still wasting time.

And time is the one thing we do not get more of when it is up.
