Mail from Wise - money transfers

Featured Replies

I just got a mail from Wise that they can't offer directly money transfers from for example US to Singapore. If you live in Thailand it first will use the exchange rate to THB and than another exchange to SGD. It will br more expensive. It shows how desperate Thailand is in getting money, as with this kind of transfers have nothing to do with Thai banks, but they want to earn about, just as foreigners live in Thailand

I'm trying to make sense of these Wise changes. Is a concern that the new way Wise will transfer money into Thailand will mean it gets flagged in such a way that the Thai revenue department will see it and so collect taxes on people living here full time on things like a marriage visa?

I was reading something about this on X today. It doesn't look good overall and the additional KYC compliance will catch many with pants down. I read only long term visas will be supported, fir example.

Are these the changes you're referring to?

WISE will convert to being a Thai bank on several dates. 19 May or 1st August have been suggested.

So, now that my super duper wife is a Canadian resident she can transfer millions of baht with a Wise account to her Thai bank account tax free? Is that how it works?

As such a prolific poster one might have expected him to have checked whats already been written as well as put it in the right forum

Suggest you read the other threads. Wise have gone after a BOT licence so they have to follow Thai rules.

Your blame appears misplaced - blame Wise not Thailand.

It is a pity that people here don't understand that if money for example from my French account is transferred to a Belgian account it will be first from my French account conversed in THB, and than from THB again in Euro on the Belgian account. It will cost much more, as Thai Banks have nothing to do with it.

It has nothing to do with transferring money to thailand, from an account abroad to another account abroad should no be conversed to THB .
