O-A Visa Health Insurance Cover Timing

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am about to apply for the visa in London and expect to travel to Thailand in mid July.

I must show health insurance for my visa duration, so I expect the cover needs to start from the day I land in Thailand e.g. July 15.

When I apply for the visa, I assume its OK to show insurance starting from this date for 1 year, or will they want insurance cover from the date of my application in late May?

Would be great if there is someone with any experience of this as I know each embassy has its own rules and don't want to get caught out.....

Thanks.

Obtaining a Non-OA visa is a little more complicated than most people think.

Plan to start your application through the Thai e-Visa website about 3–4 weeks before your intended travel date if possible. If you expect to travel to Thailand in mid July, then starting the formal application process in mid June is usually reasonable.

The health insurance should normally start from your intended arrival date in Thailand, not from the date of application. In your example, coverage starting around July 15 for one year would generally make sense.

Do not wait too long to start preparing the other requirements though. Some documents can take time to obtain, especially for a Non-OA visa. Police checks, medical certificates, certifications, notarizations and other supporting documents may all have different validity periods and processing times.

One of the more difficult parts is coordinating the required documents, stamps and appointments at different offices, each with their own scheduling systems and processing times.

Using an experienced visa agent in London may help if you want to avoid delays or paperwork problems.

Also keep in mind that the dates on your health insurance policy are important because the embassy will usually expect the other dates in your application and travel plans to be consistent with those insurance dates.

As always, individual embassies can interpret requirements slightly differently, so it is wise to double-check the latest guidance from the Thai Embassy in London.

Excellent post. Ta

An added concern is that seems the medical has become an issue in some countries for eVisa application.

Some reports of even obtaining that while in Thailand prior to application outside of Thailand
