Well the USA has done a good job of spreading Measles ,thanks to JFK jr.

they will also play down what the Hantavirus can do , just like they did

with Covid ,and thats why so many people lost their lives. gutting of the

CDC could lead to more exotic diseases arriving in U S A .

What Trump has done to USAID, and many other federal health agencies is an abomination. Trump’s most lethal policy will almost surely be his 71 percent cut in humanitarian aid from 2024 to 2025. A B

Couple of bits of good news.

Firstly, a Dutch flight attendant from the flight mentioned earlier, who had symptoms and was being treated, recently tested negative for the virus.

Also, "Cruise operator Oceanwide Expeditions said Friday that none of the passengers who remain aboard the Hondius have tested positive for hantavirus or are showing symptoms."

Listen to the NIH/acting CDC Director. If I were an American my heart would swell with pride, while basking in a warm and fuzzy sense of comfort and safety!

So the CDC's response to the outbreak of the very dangerous hantavirus has been dismal. I guess firing all the experts wasn't such a great idea after all.

'‘Empty and vapid’ CDC finally responds to hantavirus outbreak. But experts say it’s too little, too late'

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2026/may/09/cdc-hantavirus-who-cruise-ship-outbreak-response

The hantavirus outbreak was reported to the WHO on 2 May; a notice issued two days later updated to seven confirmed or suspected cases. Three people had died, one person was critically ill and three others had mild symptoms.

On Wednesday, the CDC said in a statement it was “closely monitoring the situation” and said the state department was leading a “whole-of-government response including direct contact with passengers, diplomatic coordination, and engagement with domestic and international health authorities”.

It wasn’t until Thursday that the CDC activated its 24/7 emergency center in Atlanta to monitor the recent hantavirus outbreak and classified it at its lowest activation level.

The hantavirus outbreak is “a sentinel event” that speaks to “how well the country is prepared for a disease threat, and right now, I’m very sorry to say that we are not prepared,” said Dr Jeanne Marrazzo, chief executive officer of the Infectious Diseases Society of America."

As usual a lot of this post mixes real facts with speculation and political framing.

Yes, there was a hantavirus outbreak associated with a cruise expedition and WHO was notified on May 2. Yes, CDC’s public response appears to have been slower and quieter than what many people are used to seeing during infectious disease events.

however several claims are overstated:

  • “Firing all the experts” is simply not true. CDC still has infectious disease experts, emergency operations staff, epidemiologists, and response teams. There were staffing reductions and reorganizations, but not the elimination of the agency’s expertise.

  • The outbreak itself was small: 7 confirmed or suspected cases. WHO assessed the broader public risk as low. This was not a widespread domestic outbreak.

  • Hantavirus is not a new or mysterious disease. CDC and WHO already had existing protocols and surveillance guidance in place.

  • The implication that the CDC “did nothing” is inaccurate. CDC monitored the situation, coordinated with State Department and international authorities, and later activated its emergency operations center at a low level appropriate to the scale of the event.

It’s fair to debate whether the response should have been faster or more public-facing, but as usual your turning that into “the CDC collapsed because all the experts were fired” goes beyond the evidence currently available.

More good news. The 32 year old Spanish woman with symptoms who was sitting two rows behind a hantavirus patient who later died, has now tested negative - along with another Spanish woman that I hadn't previously read about.

Well that may change my opinion if it does prove very contagious. Thanks for the link. Should be dozens of other passengers infected on the plane if it is very transmissible.

With a fatality rate of 30-50% this could be a disaster.

Time will tell.

It's starting to look like she wasn't infected after all. She's tested negative for hantavirus (twice) now, although they're still planning a third test later, just to be on the safe side.

Yes, they probably should. The problem with that is twofold:

Firstly, they've fired thousands of CDC employees, including those experts who specifically worked with ship borne viral transmissions.

Secondly, everything is politics these days so any "new" virus outbreaks are automatically played down by the current administration.

Of course, cutting the head off of every single federal agency dealing with health (except for the chief anti-vaxxer and passionate animal penis collector) might not be the smartest move for an administration not exactly known for making smart moves.....coffee1

I certainly hope this doesn't turn into another pandemic as some strains have a mortality rate of up to 40%.

It's a good thing the world is united behind all efforts to develop vaccines for emerging threats, and that heads of important organizations, like e.g. the Sec of Health in the US, isn't a moronic anti-vaxxer!thumbsup

Good news the 'fact checkers' say infatically that the Hantavirus

is not a proven adverse effect of the 'Covid' shots...it was only on the watch list of possible adverse effects so that all ok then nothing to worry about here. 🥴

Yes you are correct,

the 'MSM' has an ongoing smear campaign against him.

He wants truly 'safe and effective' food, medicine and 'vaccines' but is stifled and stymied at every turn by the vested interests so has had very little success..disappointing but not unexpected.

Bird flu spreading, hantavirus popping up, measles spreading, public health systems gutted, and Trump appoints Don Jr.’s turkey-hunting buddy to oversee the FDA. What could possibly go wrong?

'Trump Taps Don Jr.’s 38-Year-Old Turkey-Hunting Pal to Lead FDA'

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/kyle-diamantas-fda-commissioner-don-jr-hunting-buddy-1235561834/

"Kyle Diamantas is a lawyer, not a doctor, who will oversee products making up a quarter of the U.S. economy"

All these cross aisle arguments are pointless. The CDC needs to lead in science, whichever government is in power. The test will come if Democrats take the House in November.
