I was asked for money today by a foreigner.

This morning I was walking to Butter is Better on Chang Klang to have breakfast when a foreigner approached me at the intersection of Chang Klan and Sridonchai road and asked for money. This guy looked to be in his 50's, bald and was wearing a dirty t-<deleted> and shorts. He did dnot look like he has any missed any meals. His accent sounded like he might be from Northern Europe. I politely declined and kept walking. Is this becoming a trend? I try and not judge people but when one comes to LOS have several ways of getting hold of money. Most locals live at, below or barely above the poverty line so I have no empathy for foreigners who ask strangers for money.

I have been asked for money by locals and everyone one of them looked like they were borderline emaciated and truly looked desperate. I have given some locals money and probably will so again.

I lived and worked in India many years ago, and there were so many beggars I began carrying around a daypack full of fruit, and when they would ask me for money I would give them a piece of fruit. It was the great equalizer as the professionals would give me a look of disdain and walk away, and the people that were truly hungry would be quite happy, and accept the fruit with gratitude.

If he wanted money, then why didn't you suggest he become a Bikini Barista?

Bikini Baristas make lots of money, and sometimes USD1000 per day.

Come on Butter is reasonable. 2 Buttermilk pancakes, two eggs over easy and a latte was 265. For me this place has the best pancakes in CNX. I go whenever I want pancakes. I had pancakes at I Hop in January back in LA and those were not as good as ones today.

Yeah but a lot of those Bikini Baristas are pretty hot. Imagine seeing this guy in a bikini? For many of us that might require 100 hours of therapy just to get that image out of our heads.

No worse than it is for the girl-Baristas in Seattle who must endure naked men driving up for a cup of cocoa.

LOL, my worst-case scenario was when I was at Honolulu IAP and I was approached by a Canadian wanting me to buy him an airline ticket back to Toronto of which I declined. Kind of shocked as I "Monday night quarterback" the issue, it must have been the Fake Rolex watch I was wearing as I was heading back to Bangkok.

Foreigner in bar asked me beer on Songkran one day, which I think is bit rude, but cannot decline, especially on the holiday. Then I ask him for some of his beer, and he says, direct, he is has no beer, is too broke even for Chang tower, on "free" holiday, and has strategy to get drunk asking anyone he sees for free beer. It is not life, but people do it.

I wasn't at that location this morning

It has happened to me several times in Bangkok. Mostly stories like I lost my wallet, my money was stolen, my bank card is blocked...

You certainly can and should decline.

Well, that story was almost interesting..

If you stay clear of Farang, and other deadbeats, while in Thailand, or anywhere, then there is not much to worry about.

My friends are Burmese, Cambodian, Thai, Japanese, Chinese...

They have never once asked me for money.

Nor, do they ask anyone for money, that I know of.

As for Thai people, I think they mostly ask relatives for money, or Farang in-laws, perhaps.

I first saw it in Bangkok 20+ years ago, begpackers

.

Same thing in Pakistan and I am sure it happens here lol

There was a woman who was begging, but her line was that she had everything in her luggage and just needed 20 baht to get something to eat until she could get to her luggage.

Those foreigners who would sit on the ground and sell things on the pavement? Or backpackers actually begging?

That’s a description of a soliciting kratoy wannabe who’s forgotten to put on a girly costume.

Just comparing to a once good and well known American brand that has now fallen on hard times. Also, $19.50 for 2 pancakes, 2 eggs over easy and coffee. Americans have such a food standards because of the places we grew eating. Most have fallen off the cliff. IHop was decent maybe in 1996.

I certainly hope that it was better than what we saw. But I believe you. Corporate raiders buy the brands and then squeeze as much value out of them as is possible. Instead of fresh milk, you might have palm oil or worse. We tried to give everything a fair go...and ended up suffering from indigestion.

Why do you keep high jacking topics?

Your last two posts have nothing to do with the OP!
