The United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) has approved funding for a feasibility study to support a new international airport in Cavite, Philippines. This project aims to alleviate congestion at Manila's current airports and enhance the transportation links between the Philippines and the US. The Sangley Point International Airport (SPIA) is positioned to become a key aviation gateway, with construction efforts set to boost economic resilience and regional connectivity.

The USTDA's decision aligns with ongoing collaborative efforts between the US and the Philippines, reflecting strong bilateral relations. Cavitex Holdings Inc., a Philippine project developer, has been awarded the funding, and California-based SAP Group LLC will conduct the study. This study will include technical guidance on air traffic forecasts, financial analyses, and advanced security recommendations.

The initiative underscores a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific region. The USTDA emphasizes the use of trusted US solutions encompassing screening technologies, construction components, and telecommunications networks, further highlighting the collaboration's depth and scope. The development of SPIA is also linked with Luzon Economic Corridor efforts, aimed at enhancing connectivity across a vital Philippine region.

Looking forward, Sangley’s construction is set to address the increasing travel demand and air traffic congestion in Manila by expanding both cargo and passenger handling capacities. As technical expertise from the US is leveraged, this project is poised to significantly impact regional aviation and economic landscapes.

I guess if it was going to be just a commercial cargo airport it would make sense but a full on passenger/cargo international airport? Not seeing the land nor the road infrastructure for that.

Here's some cash for a feasibility study........see a lot of those backhanders in Thailand.

They have been doing a lot of renovation at Manila's Ninoy, different airlines use different terminals. Used to be horrible, now quite o.k.
