Legacy on AN: What will be your legacy on AN? Better than mine?

do you mean" me ' instead of "mine"?

And, one more thing:

It is really not difficult to detect on TV just so many examples of...

MIXED UP

MUDDLED UP...

Use of pronouns, possessive pronouns, and much more.

Not to mention the TOTAL IGNORANCE of past participles usage, such as..; has taken instead of has took

I think the problem must be due to so many people coming from Wales and Scotland, or something.

They have no clue and always seem to love to replace taken with took.

What is even going through their minds when they do this?

Is this the way their parents talked?

They will tell you that they are native-English speakers.

But, what KIND of English, I do wonder.....

Certainly not the King's English...

Oh, well,....at the very least this will not be MY legacy....

Why do you keep coming back under different names? Everything you state is probably not authentic and you have almost zero credibility. Your saving grace is that you possess a very good sense of humor.

Don't waste the wisdom I've left you all' over the years use it wisely and send a donation to my Mrs or to the dingy slashers of Calais I will be watching🤔

Dear Folks,

Have you ever wondered why you spend so many hours slavishly typing away on your keyboard, just to add one comment after another, and for seemingly no reason?

It’s not as if we are building another Egyptian Pyramid, after all.

So, what do you expect will be your legacy, after you have died, and for the future, assuming that TV continues on after your death?

Have you ever done any good in this world, just by posting your comments here?

Or, do you overestimate the impact to do good, just through your input on TV, and the SISYPEAN EFFORTS which you have tirelessly expended here.

If and when you die, will your meagre contributions be respected for more than a decade?

Or, will you just become more unwelcome dust on this forum?

Personally, I am sure that I will be remembered for something significant, even though I cannot put my finger on just what that might be.

But, what about you?

And, if this is all just meaningless blather, with no point to it, then why do you continue, hour by hour, day after day?

There are no girls here worth impressing, after all.

So, what is the advantage for you, given this recognition of reality here?

Also, Thai girls, the one’s you probably know, don’t know nothing about a decent comment, and could not care less.

Such an exercise in futility, here on TV, according to my humble opinion….

Yet, we soldier on……

WHY?

So sad, really…..and...

Regards…really…..

I know why I write on AN.

I take coffee breaks from my iPhone software development activities.

I like to do something noddy for a few minutes and knock out some silly comment on this forum.

I do not come across any mad people who take this forum serious in real life so I pop on here to see what they are up to as it makes for light entertainment , then it is back to business.

I do wonder why some people seem to be on AN all day as can be seen by the thousands of comments they write, they probably have nothing else to do.

A legacy? Not many of us leave one of those as we are forgotten over time, name an actor like Rock Hudson to a someone under 40 years old and see what blank expression you will receive.

What makes me coming back and posting is that it's makes my blood boils reading comments laden with moral and Ethical Depravity from some of the members here when it comes to jewish and israel subjects, their loathsome, gross injustice and a total lack of fairness and morality, making believe as if they give a rat's ass about the faith of the palestinians while really using this excuse to ventilate their hatred and loathing of an ethnic group.

Some clearly use conflict as a moral stage for their own hatred and double standards, on either side. Same as in almost every other thread and topic on this forum.

Relationships, mental state, politics, lifestyle. Some obviously need a forum to place their own frustration in life.

Even when they claim to be superior to others, the pattern is often the same:

A man who needs a forum to feel unique and above others is not showing strength. He is showing need.

Anyway, here, if you are happy, be sure a forum reaper will chime in to tell you that you are not. And also explain everything that is wrong with your life.

The forum used to be more about sharing, asking the right questions, and exchanging real experience.

Now too much of it is political trolling, personal trolling, and forum reapers draining every topic until most people simply do not care anymore.

Back than when I got into Asia Now, they use to reveal the members who replied to posts, they stopped allowing it for some privacy issue or somthing, I say bring it back, let the people put the name where their comments are,

or are they hiding behind anonymity to be able to put out their putrid opinions, com'on, be a man/women

and front up.

What does this mean?

Are you saying that each member should have their true name, English name, Chinese Name, Japanese name, and passport number, attached to the profile, in the open?

How will that help?

Nobody will change their opinions, even if this is done.

I really do not understand your comment, but I am trying to......

What I can not understand is why people take this blog so seriously, no one of any importance is actually reading it, at least my excuse is to have a break from 'work' now and then to see what the nutters are up to just for a break for a few minutes, it does not matter what is said, but I suppose for some people it part of their daily life, it fills a void.

What does it take to have importance? Those with money, much of which can be gained by using, manipulating and scamming others?. Corrupt rich that take advantage of others for gain. Those without families to take care of that are only here to use, yet they have money?

You come here so doesn't that mean you have no importance also?

Are we all nutters here besides those that only see as such?

Actually, those with importance in this world, are those who take care of others, be it children, wives, girlfriends or extended family.

Those who dedicate their lives to help instead of take advantage of.

Developers of medicines, nurses, doctors, surgeons, food servers. Builders of hospitals and peacemakers. Police and firemen. Writers of helpful books. Psychologists, psychiatrists and counselors. Good friends. Fish and meat harvesters. Farmers. The Red Cross. Courts that actually serve justice. truck drivers, train operators and boaters who deliver.

Everyone who comes here comes to fill some spare time. Very few actually live here, although it might seem they do. The same reason you come here.

Well, all men here, born by a women, will get old eventually. The desire to chase women wanes. The desire to accumulate wealth wanes. The desire to "be somebody" in society wanes. Close family members and friends have died.

BUT STILL WE HAVE THE URGE TO TALK TO SOMEBODY. Formerly it was the local pub, today it's the internet, as the local pub has become too expensive.

Lagacy? Correct me if I am wrong, but how many of the 2 billion Facebook contributors will be rememberd 5 years from now?

I have been on this forum for a very long time. Who remembers the wise contributors of this forum from the early days? All dead.

The only way to establish some "lagacy" for commoners is to produce some offspring. To establish this form of "legacy" I would not recommend if you are over 95 years old.

I think men still have the desire to “put a round peg in a round hole” as they age, but the willingness to put in the effort to achieve it often wanes. The options available to them as they get older may also reduce the motivation to rise to the occasion. Those in a position to simply open their wallet for access to a consort half their age often do so, while others abstain completely because it’s the path of least resistance.

The same applies to accumulating wealth, especially when it’s not needed. Motivation and effort are required for that too, but as one ages, those traits often lose their force. Yet there are many, probably not on this forum, but in the world, who reach an age where they wish they didn’t have to chase wealth anymore, but for whom it simply isn’t an option. So they carry on.

The desire to “be somebody” is likely one of the first things to fade once you realize the superficiality of it all doesn’t matter. Perhaps this is more a matter of maturity than age, because I still see many older men running around trying to impress others, with their appearance, their game, their money, or anything they can.

As for the local pub being too expensive, I’m not sure that’s a significant factor. I think as people age, they tend to become more independent, less social, and often prefer being alone or doing something more meaningful than throwing back a pint with a few other old geezers.

In general, I think focusing on staying productive as you age is far more important than worrying about your legacy once you’re gone. That’s the way I see it, anyway. Obviously, many others, middle-aged men trying to put their name on buildings or leave as many children behind as possible, may see it differently.

Summed up nicely................ I'd add that for those with a child or children, then their legacy is important or at least in my eyes, it should be. It's what keeps you true to your word through later stages of life.......gotta be nice to rest easy knowing you've done the right thing by them...............

Thanks, and that’s a good point. But maybe the idea of legacy can be defined in more ways than one. I think this topic is looking at legacy in a broader sense, basically being admired and remembered for things you achieved in some sort of wide-reaching social or superficial context.

Personally, I don’t see much point in any of that, but of course, many others do. I guess if you don’t have a big ego and were never heavily faced with the desire to be admired by others, then legacy in that sense will never be something you chase after. In a way, it’s just another form of materialism. If you’ve never been a big pursuer of money, awards, or notoriety in life, then most likely you won’t be plagued with the “legacy gene.”

But the type of legacy you’re referring to is more meaningful, particularly for those who have children, as you mentioned. You’re referring to something I would call “looking after your own” rather than legacy. You want to leave something behind, some foundation for your children to build their lives from, whether that’s wealth, skills, or guidance on how to be a good human being, and you want them to remember you as having been a good father, rather than worrying about how a bunch of less important people in this world might remember you.

Another way that kind of legacy can be created is through philanthropy. And philanthropy doesn’t always require wealth. Just helping someone else for the sake of trying to improve someone else’s life is good enough. I think both of these scenarios have merit because they require a certain degree of thanklessness rather than the other kind of legacy which requires wanting to be thanked in some way.

I wonder if you could ask some of the most famous and successful people who have already died whether they are proud that people are still talking about their music, paintings, books, scientific contributions, etc., if that is what they are most proud of. Or would they be more pleased to know that they made a positive difference in someone’s life while they were still upright on this earth?

We have "lagacy" in the making. Donald J. Trump. In 100 years, the wold will wonder how a pompous real estate wheeler dealer has managed to unhinge the world order. Leaving Chaos in his wake. Affecting the next 2 generations.

How is that for "legacy"?
