Foreigner Hurt After Jumping From Pickup in Pattaya

Featured Replies

A foreign man suffered serious head injuries after jumping from a moving pickup truck at a busy junction in Pattaya before being run over by the vehicle’s rear wheel, police said. The incident happened at 08.55 on 16 May 2026 near the Land Department junction on Pattaya Third Road, Chon Buri province.

Officers from Pattaya City Police Station and rescue workers rushed to the scene after receiving reports of a seriously injured person lying on the road. Witnesses told police that a black Toyota Hilux Revo pickup truck, registration from Bangkok, had been travelling normally with the foreign man as a passenger when he suddenly jumped from the moving vehicle as it approached the junction.

Those witnesses stated that the man struck the road heavily before the pickup’s rear wheel ran over his head, leaving him critically injured. People nearby were reportedly shocked as the incident unfolded in the middle of busy morning traffic.

According to witnesses, the driver failed to stop after the man fell from the vehicle. Instead, the pickup truck accelerated away from the area immediately following the incident.

Rescue workers provided emergency first aid at the scene before transferring the injured man to Pattaya City Hospital for urgent treatment. Traffic police officer Pol Sub Lt Somsak, helped manage traffic around the junction during the emergency response.

Police said the injured man was wearing a white T-shirt and black shorts. His identity and nationality have not yet been confirmed because he was carrying no identification documents and was unable to speak to officers due to the severity of his injuries.

Investigators led by Pol Capt Chainaret Pengkaen, deputy investigation inspector at Pattaya police station, examined the scene and gathered evidence. Pol Lt Col Kosala Ngamphong, deputy superintendent for investigations, ordered officers to review CCTV footage from the Land Department junction and nearby routes.

Police are attempting to trace the black Toyota pickup truck and identify the driver for questioning. Officers are also investigating why the foreign man decided to jump from the moving vehicle. Authorities said further legal action would follow once the driver is located and questioned.

Strange! Seems like there can only be two things. Either drugs or that he felt unsafe and needed to get away from the people in the car as worse might be waiting for him. However, now it can´t be much

People get injured daily this way all over Thailand. Illegally overloaded pickups are the norm here for those going to work and I see them jumping out all the time. Quite a few times falling to the ground afterwards and limping away.

One upside being they're not wasting time looking for help, more, has anyone seen me with a glance about and quickly scampering away so as not to lose face....and certainly don't ask their friends to set up a gofundme............

To risk doing what he did would imply that he was not feeling safe in the pickup truck at all. Couple that with the truck not stopping and speeding away suggests that worse might have been awaiting him at journey's end... unless he was high on drugs maybe. Guess if the cops can track down the truck and arrest someone will probably reveal much.

People can survive all manner of injury, it is whether he will ever be the same again after a traumatic brain injury.

Getting run over is bad, but taking a head-dive onto the road from a moving p-u truck probably caused more initial damage. That could have cracked his skull like a coconut, exposing brain matter. The truck tire would have squeezed it out like toothpaste.

Try reading the article, it was a statement made by a witness. The story is true and if you want to criticise again, I will just remove you troll comment.

Or a third. He was pushed.

If he jumped out of the back of the pickup how, could his head be in front of the rear wheel?

Just another day in Patts. When will the GoFundMe page go up for us to send money for his stupid behavior?

Yeah, that´s the million dollars question.

There seems to be a trend here involving pick ups in Pattaya

Was it a few days back some foreign tourist was doing flip overs in a pick up truck showing off and fell onto the road injuring himself

depends on the weight of the pickup, whether the wheel ran squarely over him or partially/glancingly, the precise angle, a lot of things. The rear of the truck is lighter because the engine is in front. The skull is a remarkably strong thing. (edit, I checked, it's a pretty big truck)

Pure speculation….why not a total accident ? Probably zero experience riding Songthaews…just lost his balance and fell?

Why speculate either drugs or paranoia? Accidents do happen in unfamiliar environments …why one must blame the victim?

Made me think of Phil Leotardo in the last episode of the Sopranos. Didn't have the same ending as here and lucky for this man.

Excuse me, but what have you been using? Songthaews???? He jumped from a pickup. PICKUP! ok? Jumped, probably comes from that people saw this happen. At least we can assume that. Now don´t take more of that, it might affect your next reply. 🤣

It's not clear from the article that he jumped from the back. He may have jumped from the cab.

How about which is truer is the idiot foreigners do amazing things to find "new and different ways, techniques, for for themselves to destroy themselves".

Was he being held captive in the truck before making his escape?

Anyway, he received a DOUBLE WHAMMY....but what did he expect?

Yes I think you are correct. If he did what you say then that was why his head was run over by the rear tyre. How can his head be run over if it was the rear the pickup where he jumped off. Assuming it was those regular buses (20 Baht ride) where the only exit is the rear? The only answer possible if it was the rear would be the driver reversed over his head.

Try reading the original article, he was travelling in a pickup, a black Toyota Hilux Revo pickup truck, there is absolutely nothing about he was in a baht bus!

Would you hold a person on a bright sunny morning traffic with many pedestrians, captive in an open vehicle? If so do not ask me to join your gang to kidnap or hold captive someone. 🙄
