Iran’s Prison Horrors: Inside the Regime's Brutal System

A Weapon of Terror

Leaked testimonies and rights reports reveal a systematic campaign of sexual violence, torture, and psychological abuse inside Iran's detention facilities. The Islamic Republic has long relied on brutality to crush internal dissent, but recent accounts outline a deeply disturbing pattern where rape and physical degradation are used as deliberate tools to break the spirit of protesters.

The Torture Chambers

Survivors describe a harrowing environment where interrogators operate with total impunity. From severe beatings with religious texts to explicit threats against detainees' children, the regime’s tactics aim to force televised confessions. Intelligence forces routinely utilize physical violation alongside extreme psychological pressure to ensure absolute compliance and silence.

An Ongoing Tragedy

The violence shows no signs of abating, continuing heavily through recent unrest. Reports highlight the horrific treatment of medical staff who were targeted simply for treating wounded demonstrators. Many victims are left with catastrophic, permanent physical injuries, while others are forced under immense duress to sign false statements blaming "rioters" for their trauma.

A Decades-Old Pattern

This framework of state-sanctioned abuse is not a modern anomaly; it stretches back decades to the immediate aftermath of the 1979 revolution. Historical records from the 1980s document identical tactics of mass floggings, forced nudity, and assault inside notorious facilities like Evin Prison, proving the regime has used the exact same playbook for nearly fifty years.

Breaking the Youth

International watchdogs note a chilling escalation in the targeting of minors. Children as young as twelve have been subjected to electric shocks, severe baton beatings, and sexual assault by IRGC-linked forces. The strategy is clear: inflict lasting physical and psychological scars on the youngest generation to deter them from ever demanding human rights.

Total Surveillance and Control

Inside the cells, conditions are engineered to cause maximum disorientation. Inmates describe windowless, overcrowded rooms where lights are kept on 24/7, erasing the distinction between day and night. Constant blindfolding, arbitrary deprivation, and aggressive body searches are used to strip political prisoners of any remaining dignity.

Global Condemnation

United Nations investigators and independent fact-finding missions have officially classified these acts as crimes against humanity. Despite the regime's attempts to hide the truth behind prison walls, brave open letters smuggled out by female political prisoners continue to expose the reality, demanding an immediate end to the state's institutionalized cruelty.

SOURCE

What we're hearing about here is crimes against men. What goes on in women's prisons.

Many cultures--Turkey, China, Vietnam come to mind--employ torture that doesn't show. Beating with books (Bible Belters) and soles of the feet are common targets.

And yes, a crime against humanity. I've asked this rhetorical question before. How do these guys go home, kiss the wife, tousle the kids, play with the dog and get a good night's sleep?

“This May Be the Last Time You Hear My Voice”: Iran’s Execution Machine Accelerates

Mehrab Abdollahzadeh

Iran has sharply intensified political executions in the wake of war, unrest and growing internal pressure, with human rights groups warning the regime is using the death penalty as a weapon to crush dissent and restore fear across the country.

The chilling warning came in a final voice message recorded by 29-year-old Kurdish prisoner Mehrab Abdollahzadeh shortly before his execution inside Oromiyeh Central Prison. “This may be the last time you hear my voice,” he said, claiming he had been tortured into making false confessions.

Executions Surge After War and Unrest

Since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran earlier this year, the United Nations says at least 32 political prisoners have been executed. Human rights organisations warn the true figure may be higher, with fears some hangings are taking place in secret.

Many of those sentenced were accused of espionage, collaboration with Israel or links to opposition movements. Others were detained during nationwide protests and anti-government unrest that shook the regime earlier this year.

The crackdown marks a dramatic escalation even by Iranian standards. According to Amnesty International, Iran carried out more than 2,100 executions last year alone — the highest figure recorded in decades.

Confessions, Torture and Closed Trials

Rights groups say a pattern is emerging across many of the cases: allegations of torture, forced confessions and opaque judicial proceedings with little transparency or meaningful legal defence.

Sasan Azadvar

One recent execution involved 21-year-old karate champion Sasan Azadvar, convicted of “waging war against God” after protests in Isfahan. Activists argue the charges did not meet the threshold for capital punishment under international law.

Erfan Shakourzadeh

Another prisoner, aerospace engineering student Erfan Shakourzadeh, reportedly wrote before his execution that he had been forced into a false confession after months in solitary confinement.

The Regime Moves to Reassert Control

Analysts say the executions are designed not only to punish opponents but to project strength after months of instability. The Iranian leadership has faced mounting domestic anger, economic strain and the fallout from military confrontation abroad.

By accelerating executions, critics argue the state is attempting to send a clear message: resistance will be met with absolute force.

For families of the condemned, the cruelty often continues after death. Activists say some relatives receive no warning before executions are carried out, while bodies are sometimes withheld from families entirely.

They probably mean well and just get carried away sometimes. Got to keep a lid on things and they don't have the UK's surveillance systems or mean tweet brigades.
