KUALA LUMPUR: The victim in a restaurant brawl in Jalan Besar Kepong received four stitches for injuries sustained in the incident.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the man is receiving treatment after suffering serious head trauma.

Meanwhile, the restaurant where the incident occurred expressed shock and regret over what had happened.

In a statement, the restaurant said the incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, close to closing time.

The eatery said its staff immediately informed the person in charge and lodged a police report, adding that police and a restaurant representative arrived at the scene within 15 minutes.

"The case was then handed over to the police for investigation," the statement said.

According to staff members who were present, the incident unfolded suddenly, causing panic and confusion among employees and diners.

The restaurant also expressed concern for the victim, saying its representatives met the man the following day and are monitoring his condition.

"We are cooperating with police and have provided them with CCTV footage to assist with the investigation.

"As the matter is now under police investigation, we are unable to comment further on the details of the case," the statement said.

It was reported earlier that a man was assaulted by three others for allegedly "staring" at another man believed to be drunk at a restaurant in Jalan Besar Kepong.

Sentul police chief Assistant Commissioner Basri Sagoni confirmed that the main suspect had been arrested and remanded until Thursday.
