Can facebook get any more ridiculous?

All those who use Facebook will be aware of the "people you may know" page, with many people you don't know at all, that get bestowed on you all the time.

I got that one again the other day, and notice a friend from my days when I still lived in my home country. Last time I met him was last year.

So I decide to send him a friend request.

And then this happens.

So FB suggests I may know him, and indeed I do, but when I want to send him a friend request they say I don't know him. 🤦‍♀️🥶

This usually happens when the owner of that particular Facebook account either does not accept new friend requests or has blocked you.

You just made that up, didn't you. The guy wouldn't even know my FB, so how would he block me?

It actually happens to a lot of people, and it is either a bug, or FB minding other peoples business.

Of course I cannot know your particular case. I can only tell you from my experience that these are possible scenarios. I was also blocked by a person who knew me in person and searched my name on Facebook. And there are people who do not accept new friend requests.

Regarding the error message I just found this: The message "It looks like you may not know this person" is an anti-spam restriction by Facebook. It prevents accounts from sending friend requests to users they have no mutual connections or shared networks with. [1, 2, 3]

One of the reasons FB may suggest you know someone is because they looked at your profile. It’s not the only reason.

Not a problem, as nobody can even see my profile, except those on my friend list. Their friends can't even see. 11 friends is more than enough for me.

Use FBP app, and don't even see all those stupid, scam ads, or anything else they try to force on you.

FB is good for keeping in contact with folks you can't pop over and visit in 30 minutes. Other than that, I have no use for it.

I’m controlling myself, I’m dying to make an asinine comment.

FB is, and has been for many years, SPAMWARE...

Just remove from your phone and all computers.

Then BLOCK at all times.

Where there is a will, there is a way.

DOWN WITH FB....!!!!

"Zuckerberg is a nitwit"

Posted by the same guy who starts three moronic threads a day and never misses an opportunity to tell everyone how brilliant he is.

Imagine looking at a man who became one of the five richest people in human history and concluding that he's the idiot.

Well done - Grade A1 dumfluckery.... clap2

I use Facebook in much the same way. I'm a fairly passive, low-engagement user.

You can't find me through search, and I don't appear in anyone's recommended friends list - I'm basically hidden on the site.

I never post anything myself, but I do use it to keep in touch with friends overseas and people I don't see or speak to regularly. It's nice to occasionally see what old school friends and acquaintances are up to, even if we're not in regular contact.

Some people post constantly. I'm the complete opposite. I rarely contribute anything, but I don't mind having a scroll through from time to time to see what's going on.

I think you might have also meant, a fairly passive-aggressive, low-engagement user.

Au contraire - there's nothing passive about it. I'm perfectly willing to be openly critical when someone claiming intellectual superiority says something demonstrably dim.

Yes I found that also, so the question is then, how would someone get shared networks when FB prevent you from sharing a network.

On the other hand, spammers with 1 post and `1 friend can send me friend requests

Happened to me to. I saw an old colleague, we chatted on messenger and then decided to connect on Facebook. But I got the same answer as you. 'It looks like you don't know...'

Well we had known each other for 40 years and we had mutual friends in Facebook. We both tried several times and finally it worked.

The Facebook software is full of bugs.

Amazing algorithm of brave new AI-world...clap2

I have a Fakebook account under - yes- a fake name, only to allow me to see e.g. posts or program on FB pages that require a log-in.

Facebook is trying to be more stupid. It will get there eventually. Just be patient

"mutual friends" is always a mystery to me.

I was recently permanently suspended from Facebook because my account was hacked they said that I needed to provide a form of ID which I did promptly and the next day I was told I was permanently suspended. It was a business account that I had for 15 years, with 5,000 followers and I spent thousands of dollars on sponsored ads.

There was no possibility of reaching out to a human being as Facebook is run entirely by bots, and bots make all the decisions, and this is just one more reason why AI is so incredibly dangerous. Facebook is rancid.

Probably shouldn't have linked and posted images from your Grindr account.

Facebook is family friendly AFAIK ....
