My wife tells me of a regular p*sshead who sits outside a restaurant (shirtless) drinking all day long and shouts 'Ullo Darlin' to her when she goes past pushing a trolley. Typical tourist behaviour in Pattaya or Phuket you would say but this is a shopping centre in suburban Chiang Mai. My wife says just ignore the cretin. I think why should these actions be tolerated?

Cretins are best ignored. That's why this forum has an "ignore" function, and why in real life most sensible people simply walk past and refuse to acknowledge someone's existence.

What exactly would you propose instead? Getting in his face because you perceive "Ullo darlin'" as some grave insult? Starting an argument? Getting into a fight? Then what? appearing in social media and these pages to comments of "aggressive fool - should be deported?"

Your wife has the right idea. Ignore the idiot, instead of being the idiot - deny him the reaction he's looking for, and get on with your day.

I disagree. Never engage. The moment you respond, you've opened the door to further interaction and possible escalation.

Any cretin shouting at random women as they pass is looking for a reaction. Any reaction. If he's drunk all day, expecting a rational or respectful response is wishful thinking and naïve.

Ignoring him isn't weakness - it's refusing to play his game. If he keeps behaving like that, sooner or later life will deal with him far more effectively than a passing confrontation ever will.

Your wife is just doing what Thais do best just ignore peoiple like this, why waste 1 second talking to them, ignore move on, the last thing you want is to start a conversation with someone like this who knows how it would end up. she is the grown up here
