Well, it proves nobody is perfect. Even the POTUS is surrounded by numerous advisers, all with their own interests, and advisers can be influenced by lobbyists, personal interests, or third parties. That can drag and pollute even the best man with the best intentions.

Libya and Syria were mistakes, just as Iraq was. The war against Iran, sponsored and supported by the USA, was another failure. At some point, the whole thing started to roll, with different motives behind every next offensive move by the USA, Russia, or some despot in the Middle East.
