A lot of expats are bores.

It's not rocket science.

I don't pet Soi dogs either.

I like On Nut the most in Sukhumvit. More charm. Those other areas are tacky.

@KornPop thread 2 months old now, I notice you asked about sites to peek at, for any idea on accommodations. One savethefrog suggested is good, though I did notice, the 3 main sites with listings, seem to have many of the same listed, complexes, even the exact same units.

Pay attention to the map location, as many people, as noted, call different areas by different names. Then cross reference the complex name, if such, with Gmaps, to find exact location. Even stroll around with 'streetview', and comes in quite handy.

Good Luck

Like many posters here, you go to the extreme negative to get your points across. If I gave 100 good reasons for why I like to live here, you would argue against every one of them. No thanks.

But you didn't despite acknowledging the issue.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread. I guess things move so slow in this bored now that conversations are highlighted just by having no input or weeks 🤷

As for the Google maps thing. I really don't know how much you're down there or have a real feeling for the city but I've lived here for 15 years and I'm probably down on Sukhumvit a few times a month. I'm a daily rider of the MRT and have been for 15 years. I'm no stranger to the BTS and ARL and familiar with many neighborhoods that fall on the sides of these rail lines.

The notion that Cowboy is not Asoke? Sukhumvit

Not on, but does conx to Asok-Montri Rd (Details matter)

Along with stating "Benjakitti Forest Park, right next door to PP area."Guess you missed that.

... That reading comprehension so many lack

Yep ... Just the facts ma'am

Does the BTS offer housing ? Thought OP was asking what area, not what BTS station is best to base himself at. (Reading Comprehension .... yet again) 🙄

Thanks for pointing out this is an old thread and I'll give it up l, but I need to make a point first.

The way that police precincts might divide up a city has little bearing on how people understand and navigate it. The way that Google maps is carved the city up is meaningless to the resident of a city.

This is Asoke. Ground Zero. Indisputable. Soi cowboy is a one minute walk to it's center point and probably 30 seconds to its 'perimeter'. For all intents and purposes the end of soi cowboy is Asoke. It could not be anymore Asoke.

You live up country and with Google maps you stake your claim and think you understand the city you don't... You visited a few times ..great. You no more understand Bangkok than I understand wherever the hell you live up country.

This is not an anomaly. Huai Kwang is a huge district. Ban Kapi not only does not feel like huai kwang but it doesn't really even feel like Bangkok.

The same can be said for eastern and northern Lad Prao areas.

Same for parts of klong toei

The same can be said for the slummy areas past on nut.

Because google says....

Prom Pong is the areas adjacent the BTS stop.

Interesting concept, IF there was a thing as 'Asok'. There is no Asok district. Just like there is no Sukhomvit district.

Mind boggling when someone says 'Sukhomvit area', as it 'Sukhomvit rd', runs from Duang Phithak rd intersection to Cambodia.

To some people details matter, especially if you go to, and been to Krung Thep as much as myself.

Lots of businesses like to use 'Asok' when stating area, instead of 'Khlong Toei', as that screams slum to older people, as it used to be know as, but just small area now.

Will continue to agree to disagree, well, I will 🙄

Just because it's connected to or can walk there from Asok BTS, is irrelevant. If someone asked where Central Embassy was, I wouldn't say over at Sukhomvit area or on Sukhomvit, simply because it's close to Sukhomvit Rd.

I lived and navigated by BTS and MRT stations when I worked at Exchange Tower for 5 or 6 years. Not the arbitrary borders on a map.

Like the Thong Lo cops that were regularly pulling tourists out of taxis for drug tests right in front of my office, though we were 2 BTS stops away from Thong Lo. I really didn't have a clue whether they were in or out of their area. Just that they were reported as "Thong Lo" police until the shakedowns ended.

PP was decent a few years back .... but over the past couple of years greedy property developers have bulldozed most of the cute little streets. There is practically no street life around, and the shops (except mall) are all pretty much gone - to make way for more soulless condos.

You mean less vendors on the walkways, so people can now actually walk on them. And storefronts aren't cluttered, and owners of the brick & mortar shops get more customers.

Plenty of street life on the side sois, although supply & demand had a lot to do with it.

Expect more 'market areas' to be provided for street vendors as they are moved off the walkways and out of the sois. A good thing, very good thing.

Thong lor policing area actually runs along Sukhumvit fairly far to where you'd think you're nowhere near TL but in PP.

No. I meant independent shops.

The local hair salon, the few legit massage shops, a few local coffee shops all been bulldozed to make way for condos.

Absolutely ridiculous. No planning laws at all in all already suffocated stretch.

You mean people owning properties, sold them. Yea, that's their right, and why people invest in RE.

Why do you care ? Do you even live in TH, or Krung Thep ?

What do you mean 'why do i care?' Why do you care?

It's a forum, and opinions and all that. Gentrification is a sad phenomenon that is really hurting Thailand - Bangkok especially.

That's one opinion. Don't know how it's hurting TH, and none of our business, what the Thais do.

So you're going to tell someone they can't sell the land they bought, or inherited, which may or may not be financially beneficial to them. They can sell it for silly price to a developer, and take care of their family and or retire.

Should Thais go to your country and tell you how to do things. People are free to do what they want, with what they have. Foreigners should STFU.

Planes leave every hour of every day, there's a seat for you.

Utter nonsense.

Most countries have planning laws regarding construction, city plans, traffic notes - IT'S CALLED PLANNING. Most cities have these.

And Thailand does have a few small rules in some places before you say a land buyer can buy and do what he wants, eg in China Town there are strict rules in place over heights of new developments (although that is being eroded too).

There are heritage areas and buildings that should be preserved for history and future generations - SO NO A DEVELOPER CANNOT JUST DO 'AS HE WISHES'.

Building condo after condo in tight areas - because they are lively and active, but ironically you are gentrifying it, harms that area in the long run. Thong Lor for example has been wrecked.

The effects on traffic, dust, misery to those living in those neighbourhoods when you have the same few developers buildings all around them.

And whilst a developer may well make big money, the harm to a city like Bangkok, it's tourism can be harmful - so again planning laws need to be stronger.

Deflecting a bit. Bangkok has all the rules also. Tourist is is the pro & con about Krung Thep, just too many. It was lovely during scamdemic, driving around was almost pleasent.

Name me a metro with ~10M that doesn't have the same problem. Especially being a tourist city. 3X as many people visit Krung Thep than live there, and most to the same areas, not spread out. Yea, you tourist ARE THE PROBLEM.

But you wouldn't notice that.

You should literally seek mental help and perhaps refrain from speaking about things you have no clue about clearly.

Cowboy is 100% Asoke and if you want to be so precise, for your information, the intersection is the actual border of it belonging to either Lumpini police station or Thonglor police station. Nana is dealt with by lumpini, anything from cowboy onwards is dealt by Thonglor police station. The area and station you talk about is the next one towards thonglor, not even remotely close. That is the sukhumvit 22 area, where there used to be a plaza with bars too until it was replaced by a Makro. Watthana is simply the district.

You could not get more possible close to Asoke MRT and BTS, at soi cowboy. Office workers even use it as a short cut in the day time.

To then state silom being a bad option is just as delusional, as Silom depends very specific where in Silom you stay. You have a lot nightlife as well food markets, as well the BRT line and a Makro + Central with big Tesco lotus in 5-10 minutes distance there too. As well access to the 'lungs of bangkok' with a butterfly garden by crossing the river with a boat, that almost nobody even been to. Then on top you can easily access Ibis lunches from there as well go to lumpini park with hawker area.

Last but not least you start to babble on about tourists in bangkok, while it is literally a non-topic in most of the areas, in fact it is super quiet since a year already, more than it was in the one peak year right after covid. Before that it was also always busier than it is today.

I bet you are one of those sour people claiming decades experience and expertise, trying to educate newbies unwanted. Being looked out of every door and bar if visiting.

Where's the Asok PoPo station. And its the Sukhomvit MRT. There is no Asok district, Asok sub district. It's an opinion.

Where do you live ? ... Asok, I wouldn't know what that means.

Where's Soi Cowboy ? ... One soi north of Sukhomvit Rd, between Asok - Montri (Suk 21) & Suk 23.

If you go to Gmap, click on the corner of Asok - Montri & soi Cowboy, this is that it states ... Khlong Toei Nuea, Watthana (No Asok mentioned)

You want to call it Asok, UP2U.

If someone asked me whick is better, Asok or PP, I'd say you should be a little bit more specific, as way too vague to answer.

Y'all have a nice day.

Sorry, you're so wrong. You rely on Google Maps and AI. The OP was asking for first hand info.

If you know Bangkok and someone asks if Asok or Phrom Pong areas are better they are clearly referring to Suk 21 and Suk 39 areas. I am not sure why you're making a thing of this. It is clear and obvious to anyone who knows Bangkok, no need to copy and paste police areas, precincts, official demarkations. It is Suk 21 (Asok) and Suk 39 (Phrom Pong) vicinities.

Terminal 21 vs Emporium areas.

OMG ... how could they get it so wrong. No mention of Asok coffee1

... "Thailand's sex trade remains illegal, but its presence is highly visible from Soi Cowboy in Bangkok's Sukhumvit area to Pattaya's Walking Street, where nightlife businesses continue to draw visitors from around the world." ...
