Cambodia’s King Norodom Sihamoni has sent a heartfelt message of condolence to King Maha Vajiralongkorn of Thailand following the death of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, who passed away on 11 June at the age of 47.

In a letter dated 12 June, King Sihamoni wrote of his “profound sorrow” at the news, adding that Queen Mother Norodom Monineath joined him in expressing sympathy to the Thai monarch and the Royal Family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Your Majesty and all members of the Royal Family. May the cherished memory of Her Royal Highness and the exemplary legacy of service the Princess leaves behind remain a source of inspiration and strength to all who mourn her passing,” the Cambodian King said.

The exchange of condolences highlights the close ties between the two neighbouring kingdoms, whose royal families have long maintained warm relations. King Sihamoni himself has received messages of goodwill from Thailand on previous occasions, including his birthday and during a recent hospital stay in Beijing.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Vajiralongkorn, had been in a coma for more than three years after collapsing from a heart condition. Her death has prompted a nationwide mourning period in Thailand, with flags lowered and ceremonies organised in line with royal tradition.

King Sihamoni’s tribute adds to the regional expressions of sympathy, underlining the shared sense of loss across Southeast Asia as Thailand honours the memory of its late princess.
