Cash only (any currency). However, the only time you're likely to be asked to show it is if they're looking for a reason to not admit you.

That's right, and if they're looking for a reason why you may not be a real tourist, showing them that you have a Thai bank account sounds like a bad idea.

If they ask to see it they want to see cash. Can be the equivalent amount in another currency. Money in the bank is no use.

Seven $100 bills are pretty easy and lightweight, that'll cover you.

If the OP refers to 20k THB as a "large amount of cash", I am pretty sure that they will look for every reason not to admit him.

This is not unique to Thailand.

A visit as a genuine tourist think stay of 30/60 days 20k is not excessive

Your post is unclear and irrelevant.

"60.000 in cash" means what exactly.

Also as posted above credit cards, bank books etc amount to Zip.

Why? He was complaining about 20.000 baht cash. I am just answering what I bring.

20.000 baht is 20baht.

Also the credit cards are irrelevant.

So obviously you mean 20,000 baht.

Why is 20.000 Baht 20 Baht

Because 20.0000000 is 20 baht.

20,000 baht or 20k is the required amount.

Again credit cards, debit cards, bank book etc don't count

I said debit, which is different from credit cards

The OP question was clearly answered in first few posts.

The requirement for visa exempt or tourist visa entry is 20 k in cash.

In Thai baht or equivalent currency.

Bank books credit/debit cards etc excluded.

Incorrect

20.00 Baht is Twenty Baht

I think the point here is that many countries use a point rather than a comma to define thousands.

This has been the case for a long time. I cant see why it is news now.

Yep, that, and the dreaded decimal comma, are widely used on mainland Europe. But, thankfully, nowhere north of the English Channel, though!😝

The point is well made.

My point was that, whilst a point should be used rather than a comma, it was pedantic and pointless to point out that fact pointedly in an immigration thread.

I know but most people use travellers cheques, credit/debit cards etc. I've never carried that much cash on my person in my 60 years of travelling.

yes, but carrying cash is something I never do when I travel by plane. I get money out from my SCB account upon arrival in Thailand. At home I never have cash on me. I pay everything by card.

Please excuse my ignorance, but I never knew one had to show 20,000 Thai baht on entry.

During the past 7 years, prior to the border issues, I regularly flew and drove to Chiang Mai and Khon Kaen from Siem Reap in Cambodia and NEVER ONCE was I asked to show such an amount of Thai currency at Thai airports or Thai land border crossings. Is this a new requirement?

Not new. Rarely asked for however it's a requirement.
