What Are the Best Things About Living in Bangkok?

Assuming to live central it is the only place with some infrastruture, reliable full access at public hospitals, people with actually a identity and life and career etc. If you want a life most close tied to the real world, it would be there. Same for business in virtually all cases.

Could you please try one more time? I have no idea what this says.

Not a surprise, it must be hard for you to grasp basic concepts in life to begin with.

Moet champagne not even costs 500 at the best rooftop bars such as IDK, sofitel or whatever else. And there is more happy hour or even 60-70 baht beer deals to find in Bangkok than anywhere else too.

There are cheaper options.

But Bangkok is also the easiest place in thailand to blow your budget, which I'm sure many expats are doing.

I've never had my budget blown. Would be nearly impossible. But other things of mine have been blown in Bangkok many times. In fact, too many times to remember.

Take a wild guess who this might be in drag.

Most people have no clue what they speak about when they formulate a opinion about Bangkok. They just seen the insane traffic, high end streets with top prices and khao san road.

Agree, and common on almost every thread or topic. Opinions based on no experience at all. Mind boggling why they even comment at all.

I have a guess.

7 has changed, now awash - more or less - with fresh fruit and veg plus previously unheard of types of bread.

To like Bangkok you have to like big cities, the bts and mrt are great for me (being about a two minute walk away) as I have no wish to drive here. Plenty of bars etc though I no longer drink much.

Moet champagne not even costs 500 at the best rooftop bars such as IDK, sofitel or whatever else. And there is more happy hour or even 60-70 baht beer deals to find in Bangkok than anywhere else too. Not to mention often parties or birthdays that get you one free.

Not to mention the dozens of places with buffets (lunch or dinner) starting at as little as 220 baht (with coffee, ice creams, salad bar, 2 day soups, western food, thai food and more at for example ibis sathorn). Jump to the 350-500 baht and you get all hams and cheeses or other luxuries integrated in that same buffet on top. At the ibis one, just on coffees and ice cream, i break-even. 5 slices of cheese costs 160 baht at the groceries.

If talking about getting at least real quality, service and a experience, worth spending 500 baht on, it would be on rooftop bars in BKK. Compare that to the latest 5 star hotel rooftop bars in Chiang Mai, with half the year not even a view, and lazy staff, it is not worth it.

Talking about cheap people like yourself, the highest rooftop bar not charges entrance if you eat at their restaurant and their cheese burger is like 450, you could make it! I believe it is at like the 45th floor as well, not bad.. not bad... Without eating entrance is 350, so its a no brainer to get the burger.

In a way, just describing this again and going trough some memories, there is no place where you could impress a date that much with barely 1000-2000 baht, even today. If you want paid pleasure however, that barely gets one a LB today.

Most people have no clue what they speak about when they formulate a opinion about Bangkok. They just seen the insane traffic, high end streets with top prices and khao san road.

Whats so good about rooftop bars?

Those are the best false friends, really the best. Everybody knows it. A lot of people are saying it. Even the best people, very smart people, would tell you that.

All the ones where you are not there are great, for that reason alone.

Better than going to a Bangkok rooftop bar and dropping 500 Baht for a drink with a bunch of false friends.

False friends are cheap are on AN and they don't pretend to be your real friends.

Exactly (as below) - don't you have 'genuine' friends here with whom to socialise ?

Its one of those things - if it has to be explained, you wouldn't get it anyway...

It really comes down to money in this case. The objective is always to do everything on the cheap. If the drinks are above 60 Baht a pop she simply doesn't go. That is the dividing line.

So you enjoy the polluted skies or looking at buildings?

I went to a rooftop bar in Udon in smoke season. Could hardly breath.

I think a beach bar beats any of these city bars by miles cause you have no pollution or traffic noise.

The feeling that you're on top of the world.

I'm afraid of heights. So I did not like the one rooftop bar experience I had.

They all have free WiFi and free complimentary snacks. You'd be gushing over all the "free" stuff.

You might also want to check Bangkok's AQI vs other Cities while you are still formulating flawed opinions.

If you have the money then a bar looking over the city is nice with friends. I miss having friends :) In Bangkok having friends is easy and finding people that enjoy the same activities. Impossible where I live but I like it more here for other reasons. I need to get back to BK. I left my PCX at a woman's place 6 years ago near BK. Wonder if it is still there...

Where you live now?

Well in that case - a bar on the Side of a Mountain at European Ski resort is also outstanding (summer or winter) - but again, you are missing the point...

Equally so - sitting in a bar on the banks of the Mekon drinking is equally great - all in a different way, but all enjoyable and very pleasant nonetheless.

And again - check the AQI in Bangkok - its currently 31 much better than many capitals across Europe and the US.

You can't hear much of that traffic from the roof top bars either.

I suspect you'e never been to a Roof Top Bar in Bangkok and are instead forcing an opinion not based on any actual experience, but pure negative bias.

If in Bangkok - give a rooftop bar a try - its a really pleasant change from being at street level and the views across the city, particularly as the sun sets can be outstanding.

I visit Bangkok 3 times a year. Polluted all year round. I go to a night market under trees and the trees absorb some pollution. Those rooftop bars are very pretentious. The fact you can't name 3 genuine reasons for liking them means they are. A beach bar has a sea breeze, less pollution, less noise plus you can walk on the beach. Western cities have rooftop bars too but don't have Thai style beach bars so Bangkok rooftop bars are not unique or special.

Icon Siam has great views. I've been there a few times. Nice food too.

Nong Khai and other towns nearby only real highlight is the Mekong. River trips in Bangkok are more interesting.

Bangkok is a cool city. Just being real. The traffic and pollution is constant. Bangkok food scene is great. I love night walks there. Walk around eat a lot. People watch.

Personally, I wouldn't be the slightest bit interested in a trip up to a rooftop bar. I have never been and can't see the point. I am not interested in sunset views or cityscape views...I can see a whole plethora of views without the hordes; on YT or anywhere else on the net.............what I am interested in is the city itself; up close and being amongst the people of the city...I can see and sense all of those from anywhere interesting and don't need to go to a tourist attraction to enjoy those and the interactions........I get it, it would make a change and your reply to Rocky has twisted my arm..........can you or anyone recommend one that isn't overly crowded and advise on a time of day that is probably the best time to experience...........I will report back after said visit...!!....cheers..........
