One of the reasons I detest going into UK themed owned bars is because of the expat racists .

.I used to always go to the Canterbury tales bookshop only to hear the expats saying their Country was being taken over and jokes about arriving in a boat for quick social security etc

I told them we must Welcome the refugees especially the poor African refugees who are trying to get a better life

.look at the immigration in the 1960's from Jamaica to the UK , they were excellent and fitted right in .

Pattaya is full of alot of very racist British guys, no idea why - the irony of them being immigrants themselves is lost on them. They often cite themselves as model immigrants, but Thais tolerate sex tourists drinking alcohol at midday - they don't see them as model immigrants.

I do believe many get bored and go down a rabbit hole of radicalised social media, often citing nonsense like Muslims have taken over the UK. When you point out facts only 6% of the UK is muslim they act like you are lying (there is more muslims in Thailand ironically). I don't have time to argue when they deny facts.

It's very sad to see how bitter they are.

Yes every country needs to control immigration. Yes the asylum problems needs addressing. But they're acting they themselves are personally injured by the issues the UK faces (which many developed countries around the world face). So patriotic, yet left the country.

The UK is not an open border country. I have had friends trying to get visas for the UK, and it's nigh on impossible for 99% of Thais.

There are undoubtedly a significant number of racists, or at least, racist ideas, amongst elements of the British expat community, concentrated perhaps in Pattaya.

Casual perusal of these columns rather indicate that it is a phenomenon by no means confined to the British.

They are very irritating.

Travelling through several countries to seek asylum is not seeking asylum. It's with the specific goal of getting to the UK.

'Asylum' is the nearest safe country form the Country you first left.

I think this is what irks people , the " refugees " have travelled through several safe countries and risked their lives in a dinghy to arrive in the UK for monetary gain.

It's funny. I'm a fan of WW2 history, so I watch a lot of documentaries and cheezy movies from the period. Nothing but pasty white folks in the British movies and on the streets in the newsreels.

Thanks for pointing out that it's not just the compiled percentage. It's where they're concentrating. And if anyone thinks they plan a peaceful democratic takeover, they haven't paid attention to Middle East and African history. It's rarely the majority that seize power, nor by the ballot.

Of course many asylum cases will be economic migrants, some mixed with their own areas destroyed (see Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, etc) that we helped destabalise.

It's the same reason you are going to be a migrant in Thailand. You aren't just coming for the culture, but the women, the drinks, the weather, etc Many also come to Thailand to do business. You are lucky you have a strong passport. But many are also Benidorm cheap trash too.

But, the media and especially places like X, really push this hard onto the UK that the asylum problem is exclusive to them. The reality is many countries around the world will have a problem with economic migrants. Thailand has a big problem with Burmese migrants coming into the country (yet ironically uses them in low paid jobs). India has a huge problem with Bangladeshis, Nepalis, etc coming into their country. America in some places literally has a porous border with Mexico just flooding in.

The UK by comparission has around 40,000 people claiming asylum. Many will be because of links to the country with the British times during colonial era.

It's a problem, but by no means world ending the way some Brits in Pattaya talk about.

Maybe it’s just me who got an A star in Maths A level - but 6% is not a large number. Actually a very small percentage.
