What makes you think there’s even an expat scene there worth comparing? And why would anyone on a Thailand forum care? If you’re that interested, go there yourself and report back.

You’ve got that same creepy stalker style as Raquel. It’s becoming harder to tell you two gals apart anymore.

SR is dusty but the pavements are generally more walkable than many TH cities/towns. Not too many bogans / chavs / Benidorm Brits there yet, unlike.... well you know. SR has lots of intern'l food op

Nah, you're just perpetuated stereotypes.

I've seen some Youtube vloggers living in Cambodia that seem like decent people.

Anybody who isn’t skint, dodgy, or spoiled for better options probably wouldn’t choose to live there in the first place.

Met some Westerners living there who just wanted to do humanitarian work in a chillaxed environment.

These guys were't skint but I'm sure the lower cost of living vs UK , OZ and the US was a factor as well, as was the less bothersome visa process vs TH (and the non existent visa of VNam).

Aside from the temples, has to be the most boring place in Southeast Asia. Even worse than Phils. There is FA to do in that country, aside from sitting in a sweaty bar surrounded by the dregs and swatting mosquitos.

I wouldn't count people there doing NGO work in the trash bag club.

Realistically, anyone who could afford to live in Thailand would choose it over any of the cheaper SE Asian countries. Visa isn't a problem in Thailand at all either if you have money.

He must have gone over there because clearly there's a shortage of cocks in frocks in Thailand.

How do I know you're not shady?

Consistently calling everyone out for being shady might be deflection away from your own shadiness. Reverse psychology.

And no, I never claimed I wasn't shady.

I enjoy SR and the ruins are incredible. No way I would go their after the park opens but wake up and jog into the park at 5am and you can have it to yourself. I usually leave around 8am but have stayed later and can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would consider the experience anything remotely enjoyable during regular park hours is beyond me. I would pay 20k baht not to experience it.

Been over 5 years since I went but I doubt much has changed. You have to be carefull and theft is rampant. My motorbike was stolen from a walled private parking area that charged to park. Leave your bike on the streets at night and 100% it will be gone in the morning. The villages surrounding the park are not too friendly and it is easy to find yourself in scary situations if the young men are drunk. Completely the opposite vibe of Thaialnd.

More things to love about the place. It just keeps getting better and better.

what is a "lower" quality expat to you ?

as I see quite a few expats well loaded, all flashy with swanky cars n'condos n'villas but who are utter unreliable scumbags.

I'd say anyone wearing a wife beater and watching soccer in an English themed pub and probably bald and fat

I don´t know what you are on that gives you such misconceptions. Before they had sections for Cambodia and other SE Asian countries. Now there is only focus on Thailand, plus World Wide News. So, clearly it´s you living in the past.

I've lived in SR for a year now and I'm enjoying the quieter pace of life/environment compared to Pattaya/Jomtien. I didn't move here because of a lack of money/options or because I'm dodgy. It's walking friendly unlike the shocking infrastructure in Pattaya, a nicer green environment and doesn't have the new wave of residents/tourists bringing the crime/drug infestation that have ruined Pattaya for me since Covid reopening. Those are the main reasons I left, the ease of admin. living with regard to visa and banking are a nice bonus.

The things that I like occupying my time with hobby/interest wise are all available to me here and in many ways better be ause of the more pleasant environment.

Some of the comments here are laughable compared to the reality of living here, must be from people whose knowledge is either limited in experience or years out of date.

I recently wrote a blog post about possibly moving to Siem Reap. Here are some of the advantages:

A 12 month multi-entry visa costs about $300 through a visa agent.

No 90 day reporting of where you live

No TM-30 reporting of where you live

Easy to open a bank account, just need either at least a 6 month visa or lease.

No requirement for having 800,000 baht being held hostage in a local Thai bank.

Even less expensive than Thailand (not a big issue, but it does matter).

The definition of “work” does not seem to be as extreme as it is in Thailand.

The Cambodia My 2nd Home (CM2H) program.  A 10 year visa with a path to citizenship after 5 years.

Historically the Khmers were more concerned with territory while the Siamese were more into relationships. You're in a crumbling empire Siam is more in a position of ascension capitalizing off it's flexible relationships.

P.S. Why is the Cambo Gum'mint building a brand new airport for SR..? I flew into the old one just a few years ago and it looked brand new, with plenty of room for expansion.

Not crowded at all, kinda a rinky dink town with a good selection of Farang restaurants run by Foundations to give the locals jobs, well done.

But most people in Cambodia don't graduate high school.

If that's what you like along with lower quality health care and more income inequality--go for it.

As an expat who is living full time in Siem Reap (now approaching 7 years) - better!

Places like SR I guess are great for people who are on their computers all day and do nothing with their life. A total bore might as well be in prison join the "I am busy all day in my prison cell" crowd.

You're saying eating great Farang pancakes at a western style coffee shop run by a foundation in the middle of a failed empire isn't doing something with your life?

Whaaat 😄

I was never short of stuff to do in SR.

Swimming, eating & drinking with pals, reading, cycling, whoring, smoking cannabis ....... I always had a great time!

Of course you can ask questions, even intelligent or stupid.

However, you will have to accept all kind of answers, intelligent and stupid as well
