US Strikes Iranian Targets After Cargo Ship Attack

Featured Replies

US forces carried out strikes on Iranian military targets after Washington accused Tehran of breaching a ceasefire agreement by attacking a commercial cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

The action followed an incident on Thursday in which a one-way attack drone struck a cargo vessel transiting the strategic waterway. No casualties were reported, but the attack prompted plans to evacuate more than 11,000 sailors who had remained in the region amid heightened security concerns.

President Donald Trump described the attack as a "foolish violation" of the truce between the United States and Iran. Asked shortly before the military operation whether Washington would retaliate, Trump replied: "You'll see."

Military response

US Central Command (Centcom) said on Friday that American forces targeted Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, along with coastal radar sites, in response to the attack.

In a statement, Centcom described the operation as "a powerful response" to what it called Iranian aggression against commercial shipping.

It said the drone strike had clearly violated the ceasefire and accused Iran of threatening freedom of navigation through one of the world's most important maritime trade routes.

Centcom added that US forces would continue coordinating and supporting the safe passage of commercial vessels travelling through the Strait of Hormuz.

Strait of Hormuz tensions

The latest escalation comes months after fighting between the United States, Israel and Iran disrupted shipping in the Gulf.

Following US and Israeli attacks on Iran that began at the end of February, Tehran effectively closed the Strait of Hormuz, a vital corridor for global oil and gas exports. The disruption drove up international oil prices and delayed shipments of other key commodities, including fertiliser.

The strait is regarded as one of the world's most strategically significant waterways because a substantial share of global energy supplies passes through it.

Ceasefire under strain

The United States and Iran reached a 14-point memorandum of understanding on 17 June aimed at ending hostilities.

Among its provisions, Iran agreed to use its "best efforts" to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz without imposing charges for a period of 60 days.

Washington said Thursday's drone attack breached those commitments, prompting the military response announced by Centcom.

The strikes mark the latest setback for efforts to stabilise the region following weeks of conflict and renewed international concern over the security of commercial shipping in the Gulf.

Trump and the alcoholic, bizarrely tatooed, sacked National Guard Platoon Commander that he appointed as Secretary of State for Defence have no intention of stopping this war. Far too much fun!

But arn’t Irans military totally obliterated? I’m sure a sleepy man told me that!

Perfect peace talks.

And Trump dances to Iran's tune 😂

There will be no peace as long as the barbarian regime is in power.

I watched an Iranian woman tell detractors of the USA's bombing of Iran for those detractors to "Shut the <deleted> up". She said "We asked for this. We tried to tell these leaders we were unhappy with what they were doing and they slaughtered 40,000 of us. So Shut the <deleted> up. We want this. We will die anyway with this brutal regime, so Shut the <deleted> up. Just shut the <deleted> up." In the background were bombs exploding.

Markets closed for the weekend so it must be time to bomb Iran again.

Ya mean Trump. Yeah, I know.

And now the US has broken the ceasefir. Does anybody see a peace deal in this?

No kidding? I can't wait until the Democrats take Congress and the White House. That will change things.

I couldn’t agree more, but hopefully the midterm elections this November will impose serious limits on the barbarian regime, and its leader is only a Big Mac away from cardiac arrest, so there’s reason for optimism.

Keep on dreaming !! dont know what you think will happen in the mid terms, but you will still have trump in office one way or another.

I agree, the Iranian regime needs to be dismantled.

I guess you don't have much else than this when it's clear the IRGC has broken the MOU. They target a ship with four drones, one got through and they got slapped for doing this.

Have you read the MoU ?? what is the first point ???? trump broke it within hours !! what about the U.S. strikes against Iranian coastal facilities are a "blatant violation" of Article 1 of the MoU,

Iran and the usa both have broken the MoU but you as a MAGA can only see out of one eye more fool you !!

IMO the Iranians want to drag this not-a-war out to stick it to the MAGA crew, and they can easily keep the bumbling US clowns DT continues send over there on the go at least until the midterms, if not the 2028 presidential elections (anyone else remember 1980?). I suspect Jared et al are no match for Persian-style shrewdness. I can only imagine what they call JD, and be assured that him being married to a Hindu does not make a good impression there.

Love 'em or hate 'em, the destruction they are able to do with an obliterated military is nothing short of impressive.

WHAT? Lying? Who?

For those who are unfamiliar with US-Iran relations prior to 1979, and want to know more, do a search on the name Mossaddegh . There is a book by the guy who engineered it, called Countercoup, by Kermit Roosevelt (that's his real name, related to Teddy): if you wonder why they hate the US you will find the answer here. The regime change worked, but a few decades later . . .

It would be Ironic in the extreme if the Iranians effectively produce "regime change" in the USA in the way in which you describe !

They are certainly shrewd - they have had millenia of experience of this sort of 'statecraft" - USA are very much the new kids on the block!

Yep ! Lets see how the crude oil markets react to this once trading resumes after the weekend.

Rubbish. The US hits are in reactive not proactive.

Stupidity. It will never end.

So it OK for Iran too break the agreement, but the US can't retaliate?

Was the drone under the control of Iran or Israel?

As we know, the last thing that Israel wants is peace in the Middle East, until all of the Middle East is under Israeli control.

Says the pro Iranian who is cause and effect challenged. Well ya all get used to it because Iran again attacked a ship. And the U.S. for second time ( and

hopefully counting) took the appropriate action. Screenshot_20260628_084248_Chrome.jpg

From the MoU "undertake from now on not to initiate any war or any military operation against each other, and to refrain from the threat or use of force against each other,"

AI : President Trump threatened Iran both immediately before and immediately after the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed.

  • Before the signing: On June 17, while at the G7 summit, Trump warned that if Tehran did not "behave" or if he did not like the way the negotiations were going, he would resume bombing them, stating, "If I don't like it... we'll go right back to dropping bombs right smack in the middle of their head".

  • Directly after the signing: Days later, as the U.S. and Iran began initial peace talks, Trump issued aggressive threats on social media, warning that he would "militarily complete the job"

so who started it ??? one eyed MAGA can not see with both eyes, and you can not see the whole point, !! it does not matter WHO is to blame, innocent live are being lost, do you care or are you so fixated on your madman god !!

US broke Article 5 of the MOU using coordination and communication to get ships sailed pass the Straits without Iran clearance. Not surprise Trump violated the MOU which he signed. Quell surprise like it be happened twice in midst of peace negotiations. Trump cant be trusted to keep his words.
